Peddler Polly puffed a few more puffs on her pipe, then got up
and walked straight over to the giant. "Well, friend," she said, "I've
enjoyed passing the time of day. But the sun is nearly down, and I
mean to reach the City of There before dark."
She stood on tiptoes and looked the giant hard in the eyes.
     "Would you like a ride?"
The giant screeched! "Again you try to trick me! But this time
I'll defeat you, once and for all!"
With that, the giant lifted Peddler Polly high in the air. He
carried her over to her cart, then lifted the cart, the horse, and
Peddler Polly, all together. Then he turned and raced down the road,
as fast as any wind--all the way to the City of There.
