                              WASHING YOUR CAR

Everyone knows how to wash a car. Here are some DO'S and
DON'T's for your consideration. First the don't's.

          1. Surfaces of the paint are thin. Don't use harsh soaps
such as laundry detergents to wash the finish. They will
             dull and deteriorate the surface.

          2. Stay away from automatic car washes. They scratch the
surface of the paint. Look at the reflection of the sun
on the surface of the paint, you will see the scratches
like a halo around the sun's reflection.

          3. Don't wash with circular motions. It causes scratches
that look like a halo in the sun's reflection.

          4. If you must use a bucket for the soapy water don't dip
the dirty cloth back into the clean soapy water. If you
do you are carrying abrasives into the clean soapy water.

          5. Don't ever wipe a car with a dry cloth, this causes beau
             coupe scratches.

          6. Never wash your car in the hot sun. The soap could dry
and stain or streak the the paint.

          7. Don't rinse the car with hot water. This promotes rust.

          Here are some DO'S

          1. Do your car washing in early morning or late afternoon.

          2. Use cold water for washing and rinsing.

          3. Find an old terry cloth towel, one that is stained or
torn, to wash and rinse with.

          4. Use straight strokes when washing and drying then the
tiny scratches will not show. Make the strokes go with
             the contour of the body.

          5. Try some of the modern car washing liquid soaps. Some
have a car wax in them to replace the wax they remove.
Be sure to read the label and follow the directions.

          6. Wash the wheels and tires last.

A friend once told me that his car runs better when it is
clean. Guess I'm not that sensitive. I never noticed.
