                                 FUEL SYSTEM

There are six simple parts of the fuel system and one very
           complicated part.

THE FUEL TANK is a metal tank strapped or bolted on the
under side and rear of the car. It is a reservoir to hold
the fuel that powers the car.

THE FUEL PUMP is located on the side of the engine.

In modern cars they are submerged inside the gas tank
and since the gasoline acts as their lubricant and coolant.
You can do damage to the fuel pump if you run the tank dry.

THE FUEL LINES carry the fuel to the carburetor from the
           fuel tank.

THE FUEL FILTER is placed in the fuel lines to remove any
foreign particles or rust from the fuel tank in the fuel.

Most fuel filters are found between the fuel pump and
           the carburetor.

THE FUEL TANK CAP AND FILL PIPE is located at the rear of
the car some are in the center just over the rear bumper
and others are found in the rear fender under a flap.

The fill pipe conducts the fuel to the fuel tank.

The fuel tank cap screws on and off and keeps the
           tank sealed.

THE FUEL GAGE is located on the dash board. It tells you
how much fuel is left in the fuel tank.

THE CARBUERATOR is the complicated part of the fuel system.
The carbuerator mixes the proper amount of fuel with the
           incoming air.

According to the demands of the driver and the
           temperature of the engine.

The air is drawn through the carbuerator by the
vacuum caused by pistons moving down in the cylinders
while the cylinder intake value is open.

The carbuerator uses about 1,000 cubic feet of air
           for every gallon of gasoline.

                  Webster's dictionary describes a carburetor as " A
device for vaporizing the light oil used in the engines of
           motor-cars, airplanes, etc."

The carbuerator is located under the air filter in
           the engine compartment. END
