                                    TIRES

          TIRE CONSTRUCTION;

          There are three major parts in every tire.

          1. THE CASING is composed of different materials used in
               different methods to hold the shape of the tire.

            A. Bias-belted tires. The cords or plys of the tire are
               wrapped around the bead and overlapped and have belts
               of another material that wraps around the circumference
               of the tire.

                      Glass belted tires fall into this category. As
               do steel belted tires.

            B. Bias-ply tires. The cords are wrapped around the beads
               the same as bias-belted tires but there is no cords
               around the circumference for more driving stability.

            C. Radial-ply tires. The main cords are not at an angle
               but on a radius from the bead.

                     By far the best tires for wear, gas mileage and
               holding the road. They are the most expensive tires.

           2. TREAD is the part of the tire that touches the road.

                     The design of the tread helps the tire to hold
               the road and as the ads read shed water.

                     At any rate this the part that wears out.

           3. BEAD is composed of steel wires covered with rubber. It
               holds the tire on the rim.

           TIRE SIZES are part of the conversion to the metric system.

               For Instance P185/75R-15;

                   P   = Passenger
                   185 = Is the width in millimeters.
                   75 = The ratio of height to width.
                   R   = Radial, B = Bias-belted, D = Bias-ply
                   15 = Diameter of the wheel in inches

           TIRE CHANGING

           FIRST.
                     Get the tire that your going to change so that
               you won't have to pull it out of the trunk while the
               car is jacked up.

                     Put the car is in park and the parking brake on.

            SECOND.
                    Take off the hub caps if the lug nuts ( the nuts
               that hold the rim on ) are not exposed. Loosen the lug
               nuts before the car is jacked up.

                    Loosen them a quarter of a turn.

            THIRD.
                    Block the wheels and jack the car up. All jacks
               are different. Read the instructions in the owners
               Manuel or some times near the spare tire.

                     Sometimes the instructions are on the wheel well
               cover.

           FOURTH.
                    Take the lug nuts off and remove the wheel. Put
               the other wheel on the studs and put the lug nuts back
               on.

                    Just snug them up with the lug wrench.

                    Wait until the car is off the jack before
               tightening the lug nuts.         END
