          CHANGING RADIATOR HOSES

          FIRST
Find hoses of the same diameter as the hoses that are
in use. Sometimes you can buy a kit that contains all the
          hoses including the heater hoses.

If you can not find a kit, measure the length of each
hose and write it down. Make sure you measure the diameter
          too. Then buy the hoses.

          SECOND
Check the clamps, if they look bad buy new clamps.
My favorite is the gear type that you tighten with a
straight screw driver. Be sure you put the clamps on the
          hose before you install it.

          THIRD
Let the radiator cool off. You can check hoses by
squeezing them. If they are still hard, you will know that
there is sill pressure in them.

          FOURTH
Check the new hoses for length and diameter. If they
are not the same take them back.

          FIFTH
Drain the coolant. Loosen one end of the bottom hose
closest to the radiator. You can catch the coolant in a
bucket, but if you have not changed the coolant for a year
          do not reuse it.

Take the radiator fill cap off to make sure there are
no vapor locks to keep the coolant from draining.

          SIXTH
Remove the clamps, some that are rusted you might
have to cut with a hack saw. Slide the hoses off the metal
          pipes.

If they will not slide off you will have to cut them
to get them off. Clean the pipes that hoses were on. The
best thing to use is a medium grit sandpaper.

          SEVENTH
Put the new hoses on and tighten the clamps. They
probably won't leak. If they do try to tighten them. If that
does not work there is a sealer you can buy. But it makes it
hard the next you change hoses.

EIGHT Fill the radiator. Put the new anti-freeze in first.
Then clean water. Run the car till it warms up, and the
coolant starts to circluate then add more water.

TO CHANGE AN AIR FILTER you will find the air filter in the
engine compartment. The cartridge is in a metal or plastic
container that sits on the carburetor. Loosen the bolt or
bolts, lift the cover and change the air filer cartridge.
