                                LAYING CARPET

          FIRST
Measure the room to find the amount of carpet needed.
For example take a room 10 X 12 will take 13.4 square yards.
          Multiply 10 X 12 = 120 square feet.

There are 9 square feet in a square yard, divide 120
          by 9 = 13.4. or 14 square yards.

If you have a smooth solid floor surface you will not
          need to use underlayment.

          SECOND
Remove all shoe moldings. Nail tackless strips around
the edge of the room. Use a spacer between the wall and the
          tackless strip.

Make the spacer slightly smaller than 3/4 of the
thickness of the carpet to be installed.

          THIRD
Staple the pad to the floor. If the floor is concrete
the pad must glued. Cut the pad so that it is inside the
          tackless strip.

          FOURTH
Stretch the carpet. You will need a power stretcher
          and a knee kicker.

          FOLLOW THIS SEQUENCE:

          FIRST
To fasten the carpet to the strip, place the knee
kicker about 1 inch from the tackless strip in one corner
and fasten the carpet about 3 feet both ways from the corner

          SECOND
Do the same thing in the other corner of the longest
          wall.

          THIRD
Use the knee kicker along that long wall.

          FOURTH
Use the knee kicker in either corner of the other
long wall. Fasten the carpet three feet from either corner
          then do the other corner.

          FIFTH
Fasten the carpet to the tackless strip along that
long wall and then both short walls.

          SIXTH
Use the power stretcher parallel to the first long
wall, Then the other long wall.

          SEVENTH
Then stretch along the short walls and then the rest
of the room along the long walls.

                              ***EASY DO TIPS***

          1. Rent a carpet trimmer to use along the walls after
stretching. It will cut the edge of the carpet at just
the right length to fit between the tackless strip and
             the walls.

          2. Do not use too much pressure when you use the carpet
power stretcher it could tear the carpet. END
