                                  FLOOR TILE

This is the home project you can have the most fun
with. There are a wide variety of colors and patterns to
choose from. You can make borders, fields and centers.

Measure the room to be tiled then take a sheet of
graph paper and lay out the room to scale. Then design the
          border, field and center patterns.

          You will need the following tools;

Tin snips Tape measure Straight screw driver
Hammer Small pry bar Cement spreader
Chalk line Utility knife Small straight edge

          FIRST
After laying out the floor and getting the tiles and
glue, clear the room and remove all the shoe moldings.

          SECOND
Then find the mid points of all walls. Snap chalk
lines on the floor from the mid points of opposite walls if
the walls are the same length.

          THIRD
Centering the tile. Lay out the tile along the lines.
If you have less than 1/2 a tile at the edge measure half a
          tile from the chalk line.

Snap another line and lay the tiles out on the new
line. You will find that you will have more than a half a
tile use the new line. Check the other chalk line for
          centering the tile.

          FOURTH
Start in the middle of the room. Spread the glue up
to the edge of the chalk line. Place the edge of the tile on
the edge of the chalk lines.

The first tiles must be placed accurately or the
whole floor will be off. Watch the point where all four
corners of the tile meet to see that the tile is being
          installed right.

                            *** EASY DO TIPS ***

          1. Scribe and use tin snips to cut the tile around the door
             jams.

          2. Do not remove the base boards.

          3. If the floor is uneven rent a power stapler or install
underlayment such as fiberboard or plywood.

          4. When ordering the tile figure 7% for waste.

          5. To cut the tile at the around edges of the room, place
the edge of the tile to be cut against the baseboard over
the tile it will fit against then mark the tile over the
edge of the tile already installed.

Mark both edges of the tile and draw a line and cut
the tile. Put the cut edge toward the wall. END
