Program Description
MI is a powerful tool that helps individual investors and
professional money managers organize and analyze the information
that is critical to making informed investment decisions. MI
features:
* Comprehensive portfolio management. MI provides complete
tracking of security and cash transactions with automatic
computation of net worth, capital gains, return on
investment, asset allocation and much more. MI allows you
to orgainze your information into up to 1,000 portfolios and
produce reports based on any combination of one or more
     portfolios.
* Technical analysis. MI creates and displays technical
analysis charts with your choice of technical indicators
including moving averages, stochastics, on-balance volume,
relative strength index, MACD, trend analysis, ratio cantor
     and correlation analysis.
* Built-in Price Loader. Just download price/volume data from
your favorite information provider and use MI's Import
option to update all your charts and portfolios. We have pre-
defined import formats for over a dozen popular information
services such as Compuserve, Prodigy, AOL, Quote.Com and
more. If your service is not included you can easily add it
by defining a new data format.
* Support for sophistocated trades. MI fully supports all IRS
approved cost basis accounting methods for stocks, bonds,
mutual funds, short sales, put options and call options. MI
also provides an automatic sweep of funds to and from cash
accounts when entering security transactions and investment
     income.
* Asset allocation. MI produces reports and graphs showing
the allocation of assets by portfolio, by type and by user
     defined investment objective.
* Powerful report generator. Our report generator lets you
customize each of the over 20 reports to include any time
span and any combination of portfolios so you get just the
     information you need.

Evaluation License
This program is licensed for evaluation only.

You are hereby granted a license to use this software for an
evaluation period of up to 30 days. If you continue to use
this software beyond the evaluation period you must purchase
     a license. DO NOT install
this software if you do not agree to the terms of this
     evaluation license.

System Requirements
MI requires Windows 3.1 or higher, a hard disk with
approximately 2.5 megabytes of free space, 4 Megabytes of
RAM, and a Windows compatible graphics printer. In your
Config.Sys file, the parameter "Files=" should be set to 40
     or more.

Master Investor requires a default printer be defined in the
windows control panel. Choose the "Printers" icon from the
Windows Control Panel. If no printers have been installed,
you will need to install one. If you already have installed
printers choose one that is capable of printing truetype
fonts (i.e. a graphics printer and not a fax modem). After
installing or selecting a printer, click the "Set as
Default" button to set the printer as your default windows
     printer.

Upgrading from an earlier version.
Before installing this version use your present version of
MI to make a backup disk of your data. In the File menu
choose the Backup Data option to make the backup disk. This
     is a precautionary measure.

Since MI is already installed on your system, you will be
prompted if you want to overwrite each file during the
installation process. Choose "Yes" when prompted if you
want to overwrite the following files:

     1. mi.exe
     2. opplfrm.dbf (choose yes if you have not added any custom
          import formats to MI).
     3. mi.hlp

After completing the installation process, run MI and choose
the Reindex Data Files option under the File/File
Maintenance menus. If you made a mistake during
installation and accidently overwrote one of your data
files, choose the Restore Data option to restore your data
     to the new version.

Installation:
The download archive (zip) file contains the following 27
     files:

     mi.ex_ mi.hl_ al.db_ inc.db_
     mi1.db_ nw.db_ obj.db_ opplfrm.db_
     port.db_ prices.db_ secmas.db_ trans.db_
     readme.txt ordermi.doc file_id.diz vendor.doc
     gsw16.ex_ gswag16.dl_ gswdll16.dl_ spin.vb_
     cb5.dl_ cc2.vb_ commdlg.dl_ cmdialog.vb_
     vbrun300.dl_ install.exe winstall.inf

To prepare for installation, unzip the archive (or copy all
of the above files) to a blank formatted floppy disk (1.4
Meg capacity or higher) or to an empty (scratch) directory
     on your hard disk.

To install MI, use the Program Manager or File Manager to
start INSTALL.EXE as you would any other Windows-based
application. For example, if you are installing from drive
     A:

     1. From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run.
     2. In the Run dialog box, type A:INSTALL and choose OK.

The install program will allow you to select the drive and
directory where MI will be installed. The default is C:\MI.
If you are reinstalling MI or installing an updated version,
use the same directory where you originally installed the
     program.

Before writing files to your hard disk, the install program
checks to see if a file with the same name already exists.
If there is another file with the same name, a message is
displayed and you will have a choice of overwriting the
     existing file or not.

You should choose to overwrite existing files ONLY if the
source file is newer than the Target (existing) File.

The Install program creates a program group named "Master
Investor" with icons for the Master Investor program, Master
Investor Help (MI Help) and Master Investor README (MI Read
     Me).

Starting MI
The data files shipped with MI contain sample data that is
provided to help you become familiar with the various
options and capabilities of MI. The sample data covers the
period November 1993 through October 1995. The Learning
Master Investor section of the User's Guide contains a step-
by-step guide to getting acquainted with MI.

Corrections:
The procedure for downloading the portfolio report (Current
Quotes) from America OnLine has changed since the user's
guide was printed. The new procedure is as follows.

          1. Display the portfolio report.
          2. Select the Print button. This redisplays the report.
          3. In the file menu select Save and give it a file
             name.

To Import quotes from the AOL Portfolio Report, select the
import format named "AOL - Portfolio (New)."

AOL also now offers downloading of historic quotes.
Historic quotes downloaded from AOL can be imported into MI
by selecting the format named "AOL - Historic." These
quotes should be downloaded in the Metastock format.
