Speed and Performance from MS-DOS using MS-DOS Command Control

Disk copying, formatting, and virus scanning is 
quicker when done from the command prompt instead
of in Windows.  Below is performance test data
from an IBM 486DX2 50MHz computer running MS-DOS
6.0, and Windows 3.1 in 386 enhanced 32 bit access 
mode.

1. MS Anti-Virus Scanning Time

Scanning 144 directories, 3685 files, in Anti-Stealth
mode.

Windows=6'.11".82

Using MS-DOS 6.0 with Command Control=3'.58".95

Using MS-DOS 6.0 with Command Control=1'.04".76
