PLEASE READ:
I recently spoke to a person that stated they never pay for shareware
software. I explained that people like him are taking advantage of other
people's hard work and courtesy. He said, "I already have the software in
my hands, why should have I to pay for it?"

I put it like this: "Why don't you go and spend 5 months developing a new
method of growing apples in super-cold weather, then give a free seminar to
farmers that need your idea. Teach these farmers your new method. You then
tell the farmers that if they plan to use your method, to pay you (after
all, your idead would cost them a lot more money elsewhere).

How would you feel if everyone that attended, began growing your designed
apples, yet you never recieved any money to compensate your time in finding
them an answer to their problem(s)? Not very good.

OUTCOME: You would stop developing new ideas and just go get a job at a
supermarket. At least you get paid and even get medical insurance for
putting groceries in a bag.

Thanks and please, take our hard work into consideration.

AT LAST!
Even though the title special "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!", the program also
handles anniversaries and reunions. You will always send cards on time to
your family, friends and business clients. Base 12's Happy Birthday To You!
TM makes it easy and fun. The program maintains a database file which it
scans every time you turn-on or reboot your computer.

HaBiToYo can print postcards utilizing AVERY(R) postcards part # 5180
You can print PCX (b/w) clip-art on the postcards in any of 5 predefined
layouts. You should have an HP II compatible printer (HP II - 4si) like
Epson(R), Panasonic(R), TI(R), or just about any laser.

Happy Birthday To You! will always display five days of birthdays into the
future. It will display birthdays for the day, the next day, 2 days into
the future, 3 days into the future and 4 days into the future. The grid
will display the names and birthday ages for people with a birthday during
the five day specification. You can advance into the future (in 1 day
increments) by press the right-arrow key or 5 days into the future by press
the ">" (Shift and period). You can always return to the current date by
pressing the HOME key.

PRESS F1 FOR HELP in the program

TESTING FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS
If a special occasion is found, you will be able to print a list which
contains the name, address, age and telephone numbers. Using this
information, you can send them a birthday card in advance to assure they
receive it on their birthday, or give them a telephone call on the date
itself.

If no date matches are found during the five day specification, then the
message "None" appears in each "day" column.

If you already have a large list of family, friends, or clients, you can
import the data into the program utilizing "Delimited Data"

Unlike other reminder programs, Happy Birthday To You! TM does not utilize
any TSR (Terminate-Stay-Resident) programs. The software loads, scans the
database, displays/prints the results and it unloads completely when
through.

As you can see, you are going to have fun and impress many people. Let's
get started with installing the program (see next page).

INSTALLING PROGRAM FOR DOS
Installing the program is very simple. Follow these easy steps:

	1. You must place the diskette in drive A: or drive B:
	2. Log onto the drive by typing A: or B:
	3. Type: BIRTHDAY INSTALL (If using network, replace C: with another
		  drive)
	4. Follow instructions/answer questions.

INSTALLING PROGRAM FROM CIS:
    1. Make a directory for the file:
        C:
        MD\BIRTHDAY
    2. Copy file into the new directory:
        COPY BIRTHDAY.ZIP C:\BIRTHDAY
    3. UNZIP file:
        PKUNZIP BIRTHDAY
    4. Start program:
        BIRTHDAY

PROGRAM SETUP <-- Also available within the program by pressing the F5 key

PCX file location
This is the location of the PCX pictures. This program is shipped with some
cheesy picture's that I drew. If you would rather use your own, place the
entire directory name of where the file are located. Example:

C:\PICTURES\PCX\ <-- remember to include final \

You can also copy the PCX file into the directory:

COPY C:\PICTURES\PCX\*.PCX C:\BIRTHDAY

In order to keep the ZIP file small, I dropped over 250KB of clip-art.
These are included with the registered version.

Printer port
The printer port is where your laser is connected to. Normally, this should
be set to 1

Picture Horizontal Position
Every laser is different. For this reason, I have allowed for you to shift
graphics pictures horizontally about 1/2" left or right. The default should
be adequate.

Redefined screen font "NGA"
By selecting YES, the program will replace your boring ROM font with a nice
fancy font that was designed and created by TAMMY NGA TRAN. If you prefer
the normal fonts, select "No"

Vietnamese/Spanish Functions:
The program can also utilize Vietnamese/Spanish characters. This is
accomplished through the use of Base 12's keyboard driver VIET-KEYS. The
input method uses the Ctrl key in combonation with central keyboard letters.
Select YES and the program will load the required data. Select NO and the
program will ignore all Vietnamese/Spanish characters.

When you enter the Edit mode in the database (press INSERT at grid),
you will see a Cntrl-key combo instruction box. You can refer to the
instruction box for help.

Example: Enter the letter e, then press Cntrl-F several times. Notice how
the accents change. If you want the letter "e" with a "^" and a "." you
combine them by simply pressing the Cntrl-F serveral times.
If all you want is the "." press Cntrl-N This input method is simple.

Refer to the Edit mode in the program for Cntrl-key combos.

At the start of the program, it will load the keyboard driver and make
program modifications. You will need to restart the program in order for
the Laser printer to DOWNLOAD the VIETNAMESE LASER FONTS at the start of the
program.

Clip-Art Display Mode:
This is normally set to EGA. If your monitor displays blinking boxes or
junk, you will need to set this to CGA. In CGA mode, the pictures look more
ugly, but the print quality will not be affected.

Memory Save:
Realizing that many people will have tons of drivers in RAM (example:
CD-ROM, MOUSE, SCANNER, NETWORKS, ETC...) I allowed for you to "shrink" the
size of the picture on the postcard. This picture will be reduced by about
10% The quality may drop as well. Use this if you get any Memory Errors.

Finally, enter your personal information. This information will be used
whenever you print any postcards.

NETWORK:
The program can also send a birthday message to the birthday person through
a Novell(R), Microsoft(R), BANYAN(R), or any PC Compatible network.

Enter the general message. You can specify the message to be sent to
everyone on the network or only to the birthday person.

You can specify the person's name or age in the message as so:

           Network message: Happy Birthday @@NAME!
            or
Network message: Guess who is @@AGE years old today?

In order to assure that the mssage gets sent to the correct user, you must
enter thier LOGIN name (User Name) in the database. At the main database,
select Edit, then under NET:, enter their User Name Exactly.

STARTING THE PROGRAM IN DOS
The program will be located at C:\BIRTHDAY
Please note that if you specified another drive, the program will not be in
drive C:

The BIRTHDAY program can be loaded in many different ways. They are:
(BIRTHDAY.EXE)

BIRTHDAY INSTALL - installs the program

all files in the current directory with the extension of "TXT"

C:\BIRTHDAY> BIRTHDAY
Load it by typing: BIRTHDAY or specify it to load automatically during
                    installation process.

birthday is found within the five day period, you will some beeps and the
name will be displayed. Press any key to exit. You will asked if you would
like to print the birthday list, select Yes or No. If there are not any
birthday's soon, then you will not be asked if you would like to print.

PRESS F1 for HELP at the date column screen. It specifies other key
selections available.
