A 1975 Study found that 4 of every 5 older persons have children. Of these 18%
lived in a household with a child and another 55% lived with in 30 min. of a
child. Three fourths had seen a child within the past week (not including
institutionalized populations).

While a small number, 1.3 million and percentage ( 5%) of the 65+ population
lived in institutions (primarily nursing homes) in 1980, ther percentage
incresed dramatically with age, ranging from 2% for persons 65-74 years to
7% for persons 75-84 years and 23% for those over 85 years of age.
