			    Q-Find file locator
			       Version 2.0
			       (Shareware)

Q-Find
Q-find is the way to find files in a hurry. how often have you been
installing something and it asks you to enter the path to a file and you
can't remember where it is. A filename may be specified (including the
standard DOS wildcard characters of '*' and '?' and the program will search
through the selected disk, or all the drives on the system and list how many
files match that description and where they can be found.

Installing the program
To install the program start up FILE MANAGER and move to the directory
containing the file QFIND.EXE. Using a mouse drag the file icon displayed in
the file manager window to your chosen group in file manager and 'drop' the
icon into place. A small icon as shown above should now be displayed in the
PROGRAM MANAGER group. To start the program double click on the icon.

Using the Program
Q-Find version 2.0 is a fully working evaluation copy that is limited to only
two searches each time the program is run.

File to Find
A standard DOS filename may be entered here, ie FORMAT.COM and the
program will search for all occurences of FORMAT.COM on the selected
drive. It will also accept searches using '*' so if you entered F*.COM it
will retrieve the location of all the .COM files starting with F.
Entering F*.* would call up a list of all files that begin with F.
The wildcard '?' can also be used, so entering FORMA?.CO? would give you a
list of files including FORMAT.COM, FORMAZ.COP, FORMAN.COT etc. The '*' is
used to replace the remaining letters in the filename, where the '?' is used
to replace a single letter.

Search Drive
All the drives that are present in the system will be included in this list.
Selecting Search drive will only search the highlighted drive in the list. In
the example above drive C: is being searched. If 'ALL' is selected the
program will search through each drive that it finds connected to the system.

Include Hidden/System Files
When this option is checked the search will include files that are not
normally seen by the DOS dir command. Files that are HIDDEN or SYSTEM are
often files used by the operating system itself, and include IO.SYS and
MSDOS.SYS.

Starting a search
Pressing Go will start the program searching, due to the nature of the disk
accessing involved the program will take over the machine during the
operation. This only really applies when you are running another process.

Displaying Found Files
After a search has been completed the number in the bottom right of the
dialog will indicate the number of matching files found. If more that 49 have
been found the program will display a dialog.

If the dialog is displayed you should make the search pattern a little closer
to your intended file and try again. If more than 6 files have been found the
program will show scrollbars on the display window, these can be used to
move through the list.

Launching a program
After the program has displayed a list of files, select a file either by
double clicking on it with the mouse or using the cursor keys and then press
RUN. If the file is an .EXE or .COM file the program will automatically load
and run leaving Q-find in the background. Selecting a data file ie .BMP will
run the application that can use these files, in this case Wndows Painbrush.
Most programs will automatically associate files when they are first
installed although it is possible to add more by going into File Manager.
(see Windows manual for more details)

Minimizing the Program
The dialog can be minimized into an icon using the minimize button on the
title bar. This is useful if you wish to have it running all the time but
don't want it to take up valuable desk space. A click of the minimized icon
will restore it to full size again.
