                         SYSTEM FILE EDITOR
		   Beta version -- April 27, 1994

OK, so Microsoft's SYSED is good news and bad news: good news when you
discover that it exists, bad news when you actually use it for something.

SYSFILED takes the idea a few steps further, adding file compare, copy,
move, delete, and a bunch of other goodies. This version is still Beta --
there's no HELP, but otherwise it's fully capable.

Please let me know how the program works on your system. I would also welcome
any suggestions or requests for other capabilities, or changes you would
recommend.

I will consider any requests for the VB 3.0 source code.

INSTALLING THE PROGRAM
Once you've UNZIPed the file (which you've already done), copy the 33 files
to the following directories:

	SYSFILED.EXE	-wherever you want
	VSVBX.DLL	-to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory
	README.TXT	-wherever you want

*****	VBRUN300.DLL	-NOT INCLUDED, but required in your
			 \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory

You can install SYSFILED.EXE in any Program Group you wish. VSVBX.DLL, the
custom DLL used for Tabs, is included, although it's the unregistered
version of the file -- with apologies, you'll have to deal with the nag
screen, unless you want to register it.

RUNNING THE PROGRAM
SYSFILED opens the standard 4 files (AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI, and
SYSTEM.INI), but leaves FOLDER #5 available for any other file you want to
load. Use FILES-LOAD (or double-click on the Folder 5 Tab) to load the fifth
file.

VIEW/EDIT FILES: Click on the Tab of whichever file you wish to view or edit.
Any of the files can be edited, using standard Windows commands and procedures.
Once you make a change in any file, you will be prompted to SAVE the file if
you try to exit before saving. The clipboard is operational -- CTL-C, CTL-X,
and CTL-V are all enabled.

COMPARE TWO FILES: load a file into Folder 5, click on the file you wish to
compare to the Folder #5 file, then choose FILES-COMPARE. Click on the "side"
you wish to peruse or edit (or TAB between the sides). Click on a SYNCHRONIZE
button to align the two sides. Use the TOP, END, or ARROW buttons to move
both files to the Top, End, Up/Down one line, or Left/Right one column. You
will be prompted to save any file you have changed before you can exit back
to the SYSFILED screen.

FILE UTILITIES: choose FILES-FILE UTILITIES for access to a Window which
offers COPY, MOVE, and DELETE functions. Be careful -- they work!
