Ultimate Universe has been likened to the thinking man's TradeWars and
that reputation is not undeserved. Ultimate Universe, or UU, is probably
one of the most under-rated door games around today. Like TradeWars, UU
places you at the helm of a space-going vessel, trading commodities
across the galactic divide but this is where the similiarities end. UU is
much more detailed and in-depth and this may turn off some users who are
looking for something which requires a little less of an investment of
their time and mental processes. With features like several hundred
technological devices with which to outfit your vessel ranging from beam
weapons to hunter drones, or the ability to create a multiverse where
players can "gate" from one dimension to another, this may intimidate
some less adventureous types. That's fine though, they can stick with the
relative safety and comfort of TradeWars.

This is the type of game where strategy and tactics are more important
than firepower and brute force. In UU you actually have a goal when you
play, as opposed to TradeWars, which is really nothing more than a
free-for-all. The basic idea behind UU is that the universe is being
over-run with an evil, conquering race of aliens called The Cabal.
The human Federation has become desperate and in serious need of
captains to pilot warships to combat this threat. That's where the
players come in. The Federation allows a new player to buy a warship on
credit. This purchase must be paid back within a set period of time and
the player must trade, report Cabal sightings, etc. to get income in order
to pay off the debt. Once the debt is paid off, the player owns his ship
and may do with it as he pleases, but remembering always, the threat of
the Cabal. As with TradeWars, players may form corporations with one
another, as well as colonize planets. In UU, the enemy is not other
players, it is The Cabal so destroying another players vessel may give
someone more than they bargained for. One feature of UU which I find very
appealing is that in the registered version, you are allowed to import
and export your ship to other registered UU games on other BBS's. This is
a feature I wish would be included in TradeWars.
