		     WORKGROUP LOCATOR
2 to 4 user evaluation version

DESCRIPTION:

LOCATOR is a Windows/Network program that shows at a glance the
current locations of members of a workgroup or team. Whether your
team is separated by cubicles, office walls, or buildings, you
always know where the rest of your team is.

FEATURES:

Since it is a quick reference for team members, it was designed to
be left running all day- either minimized or full size. The full-
size view has been designed to take as little screen "real estate"
as possible so as not to be in the way while running other
applications. The Locator window size adjusts for the number of
  team members.

There are two fields shown per team member- a name field and a
location field. All name fields and location fields can be
changed at any time by any team member. By double-clicking on
the location field, a scrollable list of locations appears that
is unique and customizable for each user. There is also a
scrollable message area that can be used for general messages for
the workgroup/team or even conversations between team members.
There is an UPDATE button that will update all team member's
Locator screens within 20 seconds. Each user's Locator will beep
and any changes will appear in red (the beep can be turned off).

Another very unique and useful feature of Locator is an online
"LED" for each team member. This tells at a glance not just who
is logged in to the network, but who is actually running Locator
at the moment. Only one instance of a running Locator program will
manage user polling (this keeps network traffic to a minimum).
If that Locator goes offline for any reason, another Locator will
take over user polling. This process is completely automatic and
requires no additional user setup. The polling is very low-priority
and runs only once per minute in order to not impact workstation
  performance.

LIMITATIONS:

This evaluation version is limited to 4 users, but otherwise, is
  fully-functional. A 5 to 20-user version is available.

INTENDED USE:

Two things to keep in mind about Locator. First of all, it is
intended as an aide for team members who work as a team- it is not
meant to be a tool for management to see what employees are doing.
In fact, you may not want to set up managers as Locator users, since
that might inhibit its use by team members. Secondly, it was not
designed to keep track of a team member's every move. It would
not be necessary to update your location field every time you go
to the restroom for example. However, if you are going to be in
a meeting for two hours, it would be a good idea to enter that
along with an expected return time, or possibly the phone number
of the meeting room you will be in.

SETUP:

Place all Locator files in a shared network directory that is
accessible to all team members. Grant R/W access to this directory
  for all team members.
Rename the USERxx.DAT files to match each user's login ID.
  Example- REN USER01.DAT KBUSAROW.DAT.
Edit the LOCATOR.INI file. The first line should be the team name.
The default is WORKGROUP. You might want to change it to SALES DEPT.
or something like that. The team name will display on the window
title bar, followed by LOCATOR. Example- SALES DEPT. LOCATOR
The following lines must contain each user's login ID, in the same
order that the user will appear in the Locator window. The Locator
window will automatically adjust for the number of users entered in
the LOCATOR.INI file (maximum of 4 for the demo version, 20 for the
  licensed version).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

There is a Visual Basic runtime file called VBRUN300.DLL that is
required in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (or the \WINDOWS directory
if running shared Windows from a network) to run any Visual Basic
program. In addition to VBRUN300.DLL, Locator requires another file
called THREED.VBX in the same directory as VBRUN300.DLL. THREED.VBX
is included with the Locator program in case you don't already have it.
VBRUN300.DLL is available from America Online and Compuserve.

WORKSTATION SETUP:

Each user's AUTOEXEC.BAT file should contain a SET command showing
the path to the LOCATOR files. Example-
  SET LOCATORPATH=G:\SHARED\SALES\LOCATOR. An alternative
would be to pass the LOCATOR path to the program as part of the
command. Using this method, the icon command would be-
  G:\SHARED\SALES\LOCATOR\LOCATOR.EXE G:\SHARED\SALES\LOCATOR

In either the AUTOEXEC.BAT or Novell System Login Script, the SET
variable S_USER must be set (This is already set for Saber users).
Example- for AUTOEXEC.BAT use SET S_USER=KBUSAROW or for network
  login script use SET S_USER=$LOGIN_NAME.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

If the UPDATE button doesn't work (greyed out), either the variable
S_USER does not contain your login ID, or your login ID is not
included in the LOCATOR.INI file. Press the "?" button on the
Locator screen to see if Locator knows your login ID.

If the program run for a few seconds then quits, you didn't rename
one of the USERxx.DAT files to match your login ID.
  Example- REN USER01.DAT KBUSAROW.DAT

If the Locator screen shows only one name field, even though you
have more than one name in the LOCATOR.INI file, it probably doesn't
have a path to the Locator files. Press the "?" button to see the
  Locator path.
