GET A FAST, EASY START

New users may be tempted to pounce on the menus and try every option.
This is not a good idea with Beat 'Em. One can quickly become confused. Or
lost. Even hopelessly stuck.

The easiest and quickest way to get up and running is to use the
tutorial. Print it. Then sit down at the computer and go. [Set top of form
an inch above the print head.] Also see the Weekly Procedure in the Help menu
under Getting Started.

UPDATED DATA FILES

We work at keeping the data files current. However, some factors in the
distribution scheme are beyond our control. Thus the files received may not
contain the latest data. If not, we apologize. It will be necessary to enter
the line and scores for any missing week. Without current data, Beat'Em can't
be of much help.

All users may order an update. Registration is not required. We'll ship
immediately if requested. But we'd prefer to do so Tuesday noon so we can
include last week's scores and the morning's line. Include a check or money
order in the amount of eleven dollars ($11) to cover costs, including a run to
the post office. Send requests and eleven bucks to Bob McElwain, 5092A Tip
Top Road, Mariposa, CA 95338. Registered users will also receive the latest
update to Beat'Em with all fixes to date. Along with any recommendations
made.

WATCHME

A text file to be read and/or printed. Updated weekly with rate
changes, teams to watch, and such. Also includes work-arounds for known bugs
not yet fixed.

BEAT'EM! EXPLAINED

Beat'Em is a complete program. It provides all that's required for
making picks each week. If the goal is to add spice to playing the local
football pool, most users find that Beat'Em gets it done. Nothing more is
needed.

However, Beat'Em is but a part of a far more comprehensive program we
call Beat'Em! It's this enhanced version that is used to produce initial
rates for a new season. Here's a brief sketch of some of the features.

There are more projections. One picks better than 60% However, none
pick in all games. Note that these projections are still experimental, thus
how good they'll prove to be is unknown.

Adjust the conditions for making a pick with these additional
projections. Control the number of picks made and the success rate. Higher
success rates can be obtained, but the number of games picked will drop.

A host of powerful tools are provided to tailor rates for the current
season. Thus turning a difficult task into an easy one. Fun even. Adjusting
rates to match the reality of the new season can significantly improve
Beat'Em's success rate.

Experiment freely. Run several sets of files with differing rates. Enter
the week's data in any one set. And all can be updated automatically.

Continue to a new season without the need of an update. Assures an
independence. And continued good results in future seasons indefinitely.

Adjust and/or modify all aspects of the model so that it better fits
one's own sense of the real situation. It can be entirely rebuilt to suit.

The printed manual provides the details. And guidelines for
accomplishing most any task. Along with a host of suggestions.

Beat'Em! is not, and will not be available as shareware. However, it's
sold with an unconditional money-back guarantee. Further details will be
provided upon request. Drop a line to Bob McElwain, 5092A Tip Top Road,
Mariposa, CA 95338.
