                          *** INSTY v2.2 ***

      DESCRIPTION:

Insty is a configurable installation program which program authors
can set up for their specific needs and distribute with their
      programs.

Many programs use a BATCH-FILE installation. INSTY has many
advantages over a batch-file. Just a few follow.

      INSTY offers many features including:

          Checks for missing files
          Checks for invalid drive/directory input
          Checks for sufficient disk space
3 optional sets of files installed in different locations
Up to 100 files total per installation
Does not use the DOS copy command
Can be aborted by end-user (while installing) and removes files
Can be set up to add directory to PATH of end-user
Set up your chosen default target drive/directory
Nice and easy to use user-interface
Target directory can be up to 30 characters long

      *NEW*

v2.1: Target directory can now be up to 15 subdirectories deep
v2.2: When PATH is altered, INSTY checks the DOS version. If
DOS version is 6.2 or higher, maximum PATH length is 127,
                otherwise it is 66.
v2.2: Other improvements in PATH modification routine.
          v2.2: Improvements in SETUP.

      REQUIREMENTS:

INSTY should require nothing more than 256K RAM and a color
      monitor.

      INSTRUCTIONS:

To set up INSTY to be distributed to your program users, type
INSTY SETUP and you will go to the internal instructions and
      SETUP screen.

SETUP creates a file: INSTY.INI which must be distributed with
your program. This file contains data which INSTY.EXE needs to
complete your installation. If INSTY.INI is not found, an error
message will appear and the program will terminate.

Although some error checking is done at the SETUP area for valid
entry of Directory/Drive and file names, be careful to enter
this data correctly since there is only so much checking possible
before all of your program files are grouped together for dist-
      ribution.

The internal instructions are fairly complete so only what is
not there will be found here, as well as any updates.

The first prompt at SETUP will be for how many files you want to
install. This is the number of files in the FIRST group.
If you are not installing any more GROUPS or SETS of files
(optional files) then input your TOTAL here.
If you do want to install optional files, when prompted for
how many sets (0-3) answer with the number of sets (or groups) of
optional files you want to install.

To complete SETUP, you should have the following information
      ready:

Number of files (for each group) not to exceed 100
Default destination PATH (for each group)
Your Program Name to appear on screen
             File Names (listed per group)
Group Names (which prompt users for optional installations)

You can also give a name to each group of optional files such as
GRAPHICS or PROJECTS or whatever suits your need. When the end-user
is done installing the main files, they will be prompted as to
whether they want to install the Optional files, and the name
will be part of the prompt.

Note that if you want a directory added to the end-user's PATH
you can only do so with the FIRST target directory, not with the
Optional sets (if any). If their PATH is too long it will
not be added, OR if the target directory is found in their
PATH statment of the AUTOEXEC.BAT it will not be changed. In
any of these cases, they will be given a message advising them.

      Although the INSTY.INI is a text-file I don't recommend editing
      it with a text-editor.
