Dear Editor,

Herald publisher Dave Lawrence Jr. thinks that members of the
D-FY-IT (Drug Free Youth In Town) high school program in Dade County
are the "cool crowd" because they sign statements swearing off drug
and alcohol use and take drug screening tests in return for
incentives from local merchants (Miami Herald, Feb 20, 1994).
Woe unto any Broward School Board member who ever suggests that
my children have to submit urine specimens to receive incentives or
rewards. Youths that don't yield to this Orwellian terrorism are the
cool ones in my book. The others might just as well be pitiful sheep.
