People Index is a database of names, addresses, phone numbers and other personal
data. Each field is stored as text but if you are consistent about how you enter data in the
same field on each record, the information can be searched as numbers or dates.

People Index includes an updateable sample database of all US Presidents.

There are three tabbed cards for each record which in the sample presidents database
are marked Official, Private and Notes. The two fields for Last Name and First
Name, along with the Jotter area, are common to each tab, but the rest of the information
on the Official and Private cards can be different; and the third card is for unstructured
notes that you can search.

Using the Group menu and the search facilities you can create a group of records which
have data in common. For example, in the presidents database you can create a list of
all presidents from New York (7), or with more than three children (19), or both (4). Using
these functions on your own data in your own database you could see all the people who
have a birthday in November, or get a list of people who bought a Ford from you in 1993.

Once you have the group you want you can generate a file with all the names and
address suitable for printing or importing into a spreadsheet. You can copy a group of
records to another database.

You can change the labels on the tabs, and on the field captions, in Set up so you can
have names of your own choosing and in a language other than English. You can have
different field names for each database, and the menus use your field names.

All the information in a People Index database can be listed to a text file or
in comma delimited format for importing to a spreadsheet. Names and addresses
can be separately listed to a file.

This version of People Index is for single users only.

INSTALL
You may find that the best arrangement is to create a directory called C:\PEOPLE and store
People Index's executable files and databases there, and VB300.DLL and the
database engine files in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. The following is a list of files
and where to keep them:

in C:\PEOPLE
	PEOPLE.EXE main executable
	PEOPLE.HLP help file
PEOPLE.INI ini file - must be in same directory as PEOPLE.EXE
	PRESDNTS.PDB Presidents database
These files are included in PNDX1.ZIP on CompuServe. PEOPLE.HLP provides a full
guide to using the US Presidents database.

in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
	VBRUN300.DLL VB runtime dll
	VBDB300.DLL VB data control dll
	MSAES110.DLL Access dll
	MSAJT110.DLL Access Jet engine
On CompuServe VBRUN300.DLL is in the WinShare forum as VBRUN3.ZIP
and the other three files are in MSA11.ZIP: get them if you've not got them
already.

If the supplied PEOPLE.INI is not in the startup directory, or if it does not point to a valid
database, such as PRESDNTS.PDB, People Index will report that it cannot find the startup
databasee: click OK and the database menu will drop down. Click on New, provide a
name, and after the database has been created, switch to it and add records.

You will need a modem to use People Index's dialling facility. If you have one, set the
Comm Port number in Set Up. The Phone menu, the phone icon and the re-dial lamp
will then appear whenever People Index is started.
