                              Version 3.0

Mike Woltz and Buffalo Creek Software would like to take this
opportunity to thank you for you continued support of SPITFIRE.
The following section will explain the necessary steps required
to convert a present SPITFIRE Version 2.8 BBS system to the
     greatly enhanced SPITFIRE Version 3.0.

***NOTE*** During the conversion process, any and all existing
message "threads" will not be maintained. Although the existing
"threads" will not be maintained, new message threading will be
available and maintained once again after the installation of
     SPITFIRE Version 3.0.

CONVERTING FROM SPITFIRE VERSION 2.8 TO VERSION 3.0

Listed below are the steps necessary for converting from SPITFIRE
Version 2.8 to Version 3.0. Following these steps should provide
a easy means of converting from SPITFIRE v2.8 to SPITFIRE v3.0. If
you are setting up SPITFIRE for the first time then you obviously
do not need to follow these steps but rather simply install SPITFIRE
pursuant to the instructions set forth in the SPITFIRE.DOC file.

1. Prior to beginning the conversion process, backup files contained
in your main SPITFIRE directory and files contained in your SPITFIRE
    work file path.

2. You will find a file contained within the compressed package, a
file called SF28_30.EXE. Place this file in your main SPITFIRE
directory (System File Path) and run it. It will do the necessary
    conversions.

3. Once the conversion process has been completed, overwrite your
    existing

    SPITFIRE.EXE
    SPITFIRE.OVR
    SFMAIN.MNU
    SFMSG.MNU
    SFSYSOP.MNU

files with those supplied in your SPITFIRE package.

     ***IMPORTANT NOTE***
If you are using display files for your Main, Message and/or Sysop
menus, these will need to be modified to correspond to the new SFMSG.MNU,
SFMAIN.MNU and SFSYSOP.MNU files. Each of these have had at least
one or more changes that will make your old display menu files
     obsolete. Therefore new MAIN<x>.BBS/CLR, MSG<x>.BBS/CLR and SOP<x>.
BBS/CLR will need to be created to be compatible with the new SFMAIN.MNU,
     SFMSG.MNU and SFSYSOP.MNU files.

     ***IMPORTANT NOTE***
PLEASE NOTE THAT CERTAIN SPITFIRE UTILITIES HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATED
TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH THIS VERSION OF SPITFIRE. To be more
specific, if you are using PC Relay net-mail in conjunction with
Bob Browne's SFUTI285 driver or using Bob Zimmerman's SpitMail, these
will NOT work with SPITFIRE version 3.0! BE CERTAIN YOU ARE WILLING TO
RELINQUISH USE OF THESE FEATURES/UTILITIES BEFORE INSTALLING THIS
VERSION OF SPITFIRE! Once this version is installed, you will not
be able to return to Version 2.8.

Although, SPITFIRE Version 3.0 no longer uses the SFSYSDAT.SYS
file, you will want to keep this file on your drive. Many
SPITFIRE utilities rely on information obtained from this file
during their execution. Most SPITFIRE utilities, with the
exception of those listed above, will continue to work just fine
as long as SFSYSDAT.SYS remains in the main SPITFIRE directory.

Generally, updated utilities are not released prior to the actual release
of the software for which they are written. It is assumed most of
the utilities written for SPITFIRE 2.8 will be updated to be compatible
with SPITFIRE Version 3.0. However, you will need to contact the
author of the utility for specific information as to whether they
do intend to update and when an updated program might be available.

Watch for updated utilities to appear in the near future.
