Rather than having to leave a workstation set up with the supervisor logged on, NetBak does not log on the supervisor until the backup begins and then logs off. NetComm 1.2 Vanator, James R. $20 is a TSR that allow simple message sending and receipt across a NETBIOS network. Messages can either be sent to everyone on the network or privately. Takes 21k of RAM. A companion program, LogName, checks every two minutes and keeps track of who is currently running NetComm. PassCom (PASSCO) Kiley, Kevin $10 allows sharing of a serial device, such as a modem, among PCs. It works by taking all characters received on COM1 or COM2 and sending them back out through the opposite port. You can use it to integrate fax capability into any of your current applications or simply to access your fax board from the DOS command line. It is designed to facilitate group discussions on a network by allowing users to respond to any number of defined topics in an organized manner. Most E-MAIL Packages which come with a network allow user "A" to send a message to user "B", and perhaps send a carbon copy to user "C", "D" and "E". While this type of message management is ideal for individual communication, it falls short when the goal is to gather feedback from a group while keeping everyone abreast of the project status. Brainstorm provides a means to achieve the latter goal. For networks compatible with Novell 2.0a+, Banyan Vines 2.x+ and any network which supports DOS 3.x file and record locking or the Share command. Up to 1000 unread messages can be maintained by the program before a user will need to purge old items from the files. Up to 200 workstations can be supported, and the program features word-wrap. Also included on this disk are the following programs: SignOut 1.3 ($50-$500) is a LAN-based equivalent of the sign-out board that many offices maintain for workers to fill in whenever they leave the office. The program will track up to 99 employees and display to anyone on the office's LAN a list of who's signed out, where they they gone, and when they will be back. TeleMessage Lindley, Dwight O. $40 #7650/1893 is a memory-resident, pop-up Telephone Message System designed for use on a Novell Network. It should also work just as well on other LANs. It may be used on a single machine to allow a receptionist or a secretary to take phone messages for others in the office. If using TeleMessage on a single machine, each person's messages may be printed out by the use of batch files. Requires DOS 3+ and a hard disk. It uses only 10k by swapping memory to EMS if available or to the hard disk if EMS is not available. res:10k LAN Sure! It provides security, unlimited job accounting, and the ability to record all file accesses, stop software theft and viruses, and monitor user efficiency. Notice Board 1.0 Cornerstone Software Ltd $65 #4727 is an office notice board for a network. It runs as part of the network log-in procedure so that notices are seen when users log in. You can browse through and add any number of notices. You decide the structure of the menus including the size, shape, color content of notices. Editing facilities are easy to use. You can also use the program as a network menu environment. Personal-E Mailbox 1.0 AmerCom, Inc. $29 #12203 is an electronic mail program which can be used on a voice line. The program detects voice calls and rings them through without the caller hearing modem noise. Modem callers can quickly leave and pick up email.
