KBS: Crosswords for Windows

Getting Started

KBS: Crosswords for Windows requires VBRUN100.DLL to run.
This file is included and will be copied to your Crosswords
Directory. VBRUN100 is a Microsoft library for running
Visual Basic programs and needs to be in either the directory
with the software to be run or the Windows System Directory.
Ideally, you should only keep the latest copy of VBRUN100
and keep it in the Windows System Directory.

To Install Crosswords:

1) Start Windows.

2) run a:\setup.exe (either by double clicking on the file
			in File Manager
			or by entering A:\setup.exe
			on the File-Run command line.)

3) Specify the destination directory when prompted.
Installation will complete by adding the Crosswords
   icon to Program Manager.

4) Double click the Crosswords icon.

5) Three windows will appear:
The crossword tablet, a menu bar, and letter tiles.

6) From the menu bar select Files - Puzzle Series.
You will be presented with 10 series of puzzles.
   Select Sampler.
The menu bar will now prompt you for the skill level.
   Select whichever level you desire.
The menu bar will then present 10 sample puzzles.
Again, select whichever one you want.
The crossword tablet will disappear for awhile and then
   redisplay the selected puzzle.
   Two additional windows will appear:
   Across Words and Down Words.
These are the clues to the selected puzzle for the level
   that you have selected.

7) To fill in the crossword tablet:
   - Drag a letter from the letter tiles
or from anywhere on the tablet
   - Click on the clue. This will present you with the clue
and a box to type in the answer.

8) At any time you may select Options-Wrong Words.
This option will check your puzzle for incorrect words.
Only words with ALL characters filled in will be checked.

9) Options-Cheat Mode.
This mode will allow you to have the computer provide the answer
for a particular clue for you.
When you have selected Cheat Mode and you click on a clue,
the computer will fill in that answer on the tablet instead
of prompting you for the value.
Clicking on Options-Cheat Mode again will turn off this feature.

10) Options-Solve Puzzle.
This option will completely fill in the crossword tablet.
Use this option only when you give up.

11) File-Save As.
This option allows you to save a partially completed puzzle, so that
you may continue with it later.

12) File-Open.
This option allows you to retrieve a saved crossword.
Please note that the skill level is not saved as part of the file.
You may start a puzzle in the Hard skill level,
work it as far as you can, Save it, Change to Medium level and then
Open the saved file and you will be able to continue with the puzzle,
but now using the clues for the Medium level.

13) File-About.
This option displays the KBS: Crosswords for Windows title page.
If you need technical assistance or wish to register,
our address and phone number appear on this screen.

Registration is $ 25.00 .
Florida residents must include 6% sales tax.
For your convenience, the file Registrn.wri may be printed out and sent
in with your order. KBS Technical Support may also be obtained via
	Compuserve (70062,3526) or Prodigy (CJBM05A).
