[BATL_FLT] Battle Fleet (Corby, Wade L.; $15) is an excellent computer version of Battleship. There are 10 levels of play against the computer. Also included is a version that can be played over a Hayes compatible modem. Requires EGA or VGA. [SEAHUNT] SeaHunt (Halma, Andy M.; $0) is computerized version of the game Battleship. -----War & Global Domination Games [2ND_CONF] Second Conflict (Galloway, Jerry W. and Markgraf, E. R.; $10-$30) if you've mastered Galactic Conflict then you need to get started in the second battle for power and money. Support is available for a BBS DOOR version and the Microsoft Windows version. [AOS1, AOS2] Armies Of Steel 1.0 (Rockland Software Productions; $25) is a fast-paced strategy war game. Features include several types of terrain, photo quality graphics, animation, digital sound effects, and FM soundtracks. Requires 286+, 2MB RAM, VESA SVGA, a mouse and a hard disk. [ATLANTIS] Battle for Atlantis (Soleau, William; $12) is a simulation, strategy war game with great graphics. You play against the computer. It plays like Risk, but with variations such as earthquakes, floods, and more. It includes many options including sound toggle, scores, levels, and pop windows. Requires EGA. [BANYON] Banyon Wars (Soleau, William; $12) is a strategy, war game in which you battle it out against the computer for the Banyon Islands. It plays like Risk, but with variations like volcanos, quakes, and production centers. It is simple to learn and offers different levels of play. (This is essentially a CGA version of Battle For Atlantis.) [BATTLEGR] Battle Ground (MVP Software ASP; $15) is a two-player action/strategy World War II ground combat game. Various types of soldiers, air support, artillery, hand weapons, and terrains are featured to help each player destroy the opponent's platoon of soldiers. Each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses. There are nine skill levels, 27 different combat screens and other options. [BIGTHREE] Big Three (SDJ Enterprises, Inc.; $17) is a WWII strategy game. Up to three people can play, directing troops, building bombers, tanks and fighter planes and more. This is an outstanding game with excellent graphics. 512K is required, and a mouse is recommended. [BLINDWAR] Blind Wars 1.0 (Soleau, William; $15) you must conquer nine islands with your armies, in this adaptation of the classic game Risk. You control one army and the computer, the other three. In addition to combat, you must also contend with earthquakes, rebellions, anti-bombs, floods, and much more. There are multiple speed and difficulty options, sound can be toggled off, and games can be saved. A mouse and EGA are required. This is another excellent game by Soleau. [CFLAG13] Capture the Flag 1.3 (Carr Software; $33) is an exceptional animated strategy game that lets you assemble a team of players and search through woodlands and farm fields in a frenzied race to capture the opposing team's flag. The beautifully detailed scrolling playfield features rivers, rocks, trees, rail fences, and other realistic objects. Members of your team can run, crawl, hide, or just stand lookout and you can play against the computer or a friend. Other features include mouse support, an interactive demo, AdLib/SoundBlaster support, and much more. Requires VGA, a 286 machine, and 530K free RAM. [COMBAT1, COMBAT2, COMBAT3, COMBAT4] Combat Zone is a strategy war game. [CONQEGA] Conquer 2.64 (Arnold, Paul; $10) is a war game in which you battle the enemy on several fronts in an attempt to take over the world. It is a single or multi-player (1-4) game and you are matched up against the computer who plays for the Soviet Block, the Common Market, and the Opec Nations. The documentation is a bit skimpy. EGA/VGA required. [CONQUEST] Conquest (Burns, David; $8-$20) is a Conquer the World type game. Up to 8 players can play, any or all of whom can be computer controlled. The goal is to defeat all of the opposing armies and occupy every territory on the Map. Team Play is allowed, and player information screens are provided. An option is also available to make games more difficult to win. [EGARISK] EGA Risk (Fleming, Russell; $?) is an adaptation of this war board-game for the PC with EGA adapter (with 256k). The object of the game is to conquer the world. This is an ambitious game that requires thought and cunning. By arranging armies to defend and attack, and by rolling the dice (through computer simulation) to defend and attack, battles are won and lost. [EMPIRE] Facing the Empire (MVP Software ASP; $15) challenges you to save the universe from utter conquest by the dread Morte Star Empire. You must build up the Lyran fleets, gather intelligence on the Morte, and search the stars for the Morte bases. Can you stop these insane intergalactic interlopers? [GAL_EMP] Galactic Empires (Healy, Richard J.; $10) requires you to try to control the most planets (star systems) within a specified period of time. The game is best played with two or more players. This is a strategy game, not an arcade type of game. [GLOB_DOM] Conquest for Global Domination (Bayless, Mark C.; $10) is a game in which you keep your country's population alive and eliminate all other players' and Robots' countries. At the start of the game this does not appear difficult, and indeed with experience it isn't. However, the Robot countries have the same objective and will aggressively attack you as they deem fit, other players obviously are in the same situation you are. To stay alive and eventually conquer the world, you will need to manage your resources, and effectively employ defensive and offensive strategies using the weapons and defenses available to you. [GLOBEWAR] Global War 3.0 (Rockland Software Productions; $20) is a Risktype war game. Features include bitmapped graphics, digital and FM sound, navy, air, carriers, airborne, bases, supply rules, nukes, reenforecements, multi-attack, and more. [GOVCONT] Governmental Control 2.0 (Caveman Programming; $15) You have been chosen as the ruler of a newly formed country. You must select a general to lead your armed forces, and decide how much money to spend on social programs, foreign aid, agriculture, and the military. Political unrest, unruly mobs, scheming foreigners, and frustrating peace talks abound in this game of international finance and war. Requires EGA, DOS 3.1, and 459K. [LAGRANDE] La Grande Armee (SDJ Enterprises, Inc.; $17) is a Napoleonic warfare strategy game. Can you out perform your historical counterpart? You get the chance to test your skills in this game as you control all the action, build and allocate your forces to attack abroad or defend at home. Requires 512K. [MOD_CONQ] Modern Conquest (Lightner, Kenneth; $20) is a tactical game involving production and the capture of production centers or cities. It provides over 15 various unit types, and six various terrain types. Cities produce relative to an industrial level which can be raised or lowered by capture. It allows up to four players. VGA required. [RAPIDRSP] Rapid Response (MVP Software ASP; $10-$23) is a graphic war simulation. As commanding general, you square off against opposing troops in a tactical, nuclear field combat simulation. It features various weapons, eight opposing generals, and joystick support. Requires 512K RAM, VGA/SVGA, and a mouse. [SEAQUEST] Sea Quest 1.0 (Burns, David; $20) requires you to seek out and destroy all the enemy submarines and mines. Your fleet of six ships is equipped with sonar, torpedos, and depth charges. Land masses and bad weather interfere with your sonar, and if you shoot at a sub and miss, the sub will shoot back. The playing area is larger than the screen, so the main display is a scrolling window on the full map. Sonar can be used on three levels: surface, for mines, and shallow or deep for subs. A minimum of two ships are required to triangulate and locate a sub. This is an interesting, challenging game. Requires EGA/VGA, 286+, and a mouse. [STELCON] Stellar Conquest 2469 1.71 (Troung, Vu; $20) is a space war/strategy game. You are in charge of an entire galactic empire. You must manage fleets of starships, develop new technologies, and defend yourself from opposing forces. Features include high-quality graphics, 1 to 5 players, and a smart computer opponent. Requires VGA, 640K base memory, 128K of extended memory and a mouse. [SIEGE12] Siege! 1.2 (Rockland Software Productions; $12 lets you build a fortress, levy taxes and rais an army. Build your fort as big as you can and don't let the enemy capture your leader in combat. Requires EGA/VGA and a mouse. [STRATEGY] Strategy (Hoexbroe, Henrik; $10) is a strategic war game you play against the computer. It is based on the Stratego board game. Requires 640K and VGA. [WRLD_EMP] World Empire (Ultimate Software; $25) is a 4-player world-conquest game. The object is to try and conquer the other players and unite the world under one leader - you. Battles are fought and the user is in control of the destination. There are great graphics and an excellent soundtrack! Requires a hard drive and EGA/VGA. [ZJZ_RISK] ZJZ Risk (Zawisza, Norman S.; $15) is a classic game of military strategy. It's general versus general; fierce attacks against valiant defense; bold strikes and cunning traps. The object of the game is to eliminate your opponents by occupying every country on the board. The first player to do so wins the game and also conquers the world. Requires EGA/VGA card, 640K, and a hard disk. -----Dice Games: [CNTACT] Contact 1.5 (Leotti, George; $5) is a six-die dice game of skill and luck that you can play against the computer or up to three other people. Graphics are very good. EGA/VGA are required. [DICEGAM] DiceGame 1.2 (Pelaez, Joseph Paul; $5) is a game played with dice against human opponents or the computer. The object is to keep rolling the dice, building your score, for as long as you can without repeating the value of your first roll. [MLPUSH] Push Your Luck 1.1 (Lancaster, Bob; $0-$5) is based on the old dice game called "Drop Dead". Players try to use a little strategy and a lot of luck in order to run up the highest score. [MLSHUT] Shut The Box 1.2 (Lancaster, Bob; $5) is a computerized implementation of the old board game of Shut The Box. Players alternate turns trying to get the highest score possible shutting numbered doors matching rolled dice. [TENTHOU] Ten-Thousand 1.0 (Status Que Software; $10) is a dice game for 2 to 6 players. Each player tries to reach a score of 10,000 first with a combination of luck and good strategy. Requires 640K RAM and VGA. -----Yahtzee Games [FORZEE] FORZEE (BSX International; $5-$10) is a cross between Yahtzee and poker. [MLYAHT] MLYaht 2.2 (Lancaster, Bob; $0-$5) is an excellent implementation of the dice game Yahtzee. [QUIMBEE] Quimbee (CurtWare; $10) is a game for 1 to 6 players, inspired by Triple Yahtzee. In Quimbee, you get six dice. The game plays like Yahtzee, but if you get a "Q", it acts as a wildcard. You get up to three rolls per turn, but you can only select the dice to keep by value. That is, if you select "4", all 4's are kept for the next roll. [YAHTZMH] Yahtzee 1.0 (Holmes, Michael; $0) is a computer version of the well-known dice game. One or two players can play. [YAHWHO] YahWho (Keith Greer; $0) is a computerized version of Yahtzee. BP7-TV source code is included. -----Finanical Games [BAB] Bulls and Bears 1.0 (Crabb, Ronald L. ASP; $20) is a stock market game. To do well, you have to be able to deduce how the news headlines each morning will affect the various parts of the market (eg: housing, industrials) and to adjust your portfolio accordingly. Requires EGA/VGA. [GROT31] General Retail Operations Training 3.1 [P.K. Winter; $20] is a simulation game in which players act as managers of competing department stores. Players must make all the financial decisions required to run a successful business. This is an educational game that would be good training for aspiring business persons. [SPECULA] Speculator (WestWorld Computer Services; $0) is a strategy game of land acquisition. It uses maps depicting real or imaginary land areas. Five maps are included with different economic models. You compete against 3 computer players for limited investment opportunities. Each computer player has its own unique strategy. You purchase property, start companies, buy and sell stock, expand companies, and buy real estate to try to acquire the most assets and win the game. Requires 512K RAM and EGA/VGA. [SMT] Stock Market Technician 1.1 (RGJ Systems; $10) is a stock market investment game. You must gain a greater Net Worth than any other player and remain in the game the longest to win. You need no special financial skills to play. One to four players may compete. [TAMPER] Tamper 1.20u [Vorco Technologies ASP; $33] is an investment strategy game. Players get rich buying and selling stock in various companies. It allows one to four players. The first one with a net worth of $100,000 or more wins the game. Requires 1 meg of memory, VGA, and a hard disk. [WSRAIDER] Wall $treet Raider 4.0 (Ronin Software ASP; $25) is a simulation game of corporate finance, in which one to four players (including the computer) engage in hostile takeovers, empire building, participate in greenmail payoffs and more. Created by a Harvard lawyer/CPA/economist, Michael Jenkins, this game allows you to use the same techniques as real corporate raiders on Wall Street. Not only is the game fun to play, but you will really learn a lot about business. W$R has been a long time in the making. Jenkins says: "There hasn't been a month in the last 20 years when I haven't done something on it. It takes five or ten minutes to learn, but a lifetime to master." Requires 512K RAM and 720K disk space. -----GO, Tic-Tac-Toe, & Similar Themes [CONN4JM] Connect4 1.1A (McCranie, Judson ASP; $15) lets you play Connect4 against the computer. Each player tries to get four of his pieces connected in a row either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. [CTTT] Concentration Tic-Tac-Toe (Evans, Bruce; $?) is a game of Tic-Tac-Toe where the owners of the markers are not identified, so you have to remember where you have put your "X". You can specify the number of players, number of squares, and time limit for a turn. You can peek, but it costs you a turn! [CONTAX] Contax 2.2 (PC Solutions; $24) is a game variant of GO. You take turns placing stones on the board and the first one to get five in a row wins. You can select different grid patterns and board sizes, two-player mode, auto-play and more. [DAVES_GA] Dave's Games (Solaris Systems; $10-$20) Pentrix 1.32 is a strategy game for two players based on the game of GO-Maku. DoubleCross 1.1 is a strategy game in which you build a bridge that connects your sides of the board while preventing your opponent from doing the same. [DROP_IT] Drop-It 1.7 (PC Solutions; $15) is a customizable variation of Connect Four. You can change the size of the playing grid, adjust the IQ of the computer, or select a play-to-lose mode. [EGAFOUR] EGA Four (Junod, John A.; $5) lets you play a challenging game of "connect-four" against the computer. [GOGAME] GoGame (TMW Co.; $20) is based on the ancient board game GO. Players can be man or machine. Problem solving is included in the program so you can look ahead. The program uses ASCII graphics so it should work on most machines. [GO_MOKU] Go-Moku (Passera, Gerard G.; $10) plays a very old Japanese game called GOMOKU, also known as 5-in-Line and Pente. The board has 19x19 squares; Get 5 stones in a row and you win. You can play against the computer or another player. [GORENJU] GO-Renju 1.4 (PC Solutions; $12) is a variant of the Oriental game GO. You can play either a standard 5-in-a-row to win game, or a challenging game in which 4-in-a-row loses. The board size can be customized from a 7x7 to a 19x19 grid. [PENTE] Pente (Leach, Michael A.; $0) is a game in which two players, or one player and a computer, take turns placing a piece on a grid. The object is to be the first to get five pieces in a row. Pieces can be captured only in pairs. This is a fun, interesting game. [PLOTZ] Plotz (Soleau, William; $10) is a strategy game in which the objective is to change an entire column of squares to your color before the computer does. It may take a time or two to catch on to the game, but it becomes pretty interesting after that. [QUINTA] Quinta 3.0 (Penner, Lester; $5) is similar to Othello, Go-Moku, Go and Pente. It is a very challenging game to try to win against the computer. The graphics and colors are excellent. Requires a mouse and EGA/VGA/CGA compatible video. [SLIME] Slime (Menlove, Spencer; $0) is a strategy game where the object is to dominate the board by taking over adjacent enemy pieces. It features one- and two-player modes, or you can watch the computer play itself. Even on the intermediate level, this is a tough game. Requires a mouse. [THREE_O] Three-O 1.0 (DeQueen Software, reg. fee: $18) is a board game similar to tic-tac-toe with numbers. The object is to get three of your numbered tiles in a row, at which point you score the sum of their numbers. Requires two people to play each other. [TTT3D] TTT3D (Microstuff; $15) is a multi-level 3 dimensional tic-tac-toe game. Play against the computer or your friends. Even at the Beginner level, the computer is hard to beat. -----Other [ADDIX] Addix 2.0 (PC Solutions; $24) is a strategy game in which you and the computer take turns capturing numbers from a grid. You select a number from the horizontal row of the computer's last move and the computer takes a number from the vertical column of your last move. The player with the higher score wins. You can change the board size, adjust the IQ of the computer, select auto-play and more. [ALDO_JR] Aldo (ALDO (Riordan, Jason; $10) is based on the childhood game of paper-rock-scissors, but this version is not for young children. The strategy in deciding which item to play and where on the playing board to place it is pretty difficult to master. (This game has no relation to the run-and-jump arcade game of the same name.) [ARIONX] Arionx (Dalal, Dan; $0) is a math solving game that requires some math background. It is the third game is a six game series. Each game requires you to solve the previous game to continue in the series (which can be ordered from the author) although games one and two are not necessary to complete this game. [AWELE] Awele (Cabannes, Jean-Pierre; $0) is a well known African game (that comes to us from France) to be played between two players (ie: you can't play the computer). The archive contains two versions - one in English and the other in French. Both require EGA. [ATOMS3] Atoms-3 1.0 (Distant Markets; $25-$31) is a network/local strategy game played on an 8x8 board. Place atoms in the right squares on the board so that the atoms can begin a chain fission reaction to other squares. From 2 to 6 can play. Requires EGA/VGA. [BALOONC] Balloon Challenge 1.0 (Soleau Software; $12) pits you against the computer as you each try to launch 25 balloons. The higher the balloon rises into the sky, the higher the score. There is a new maze everytime you play. EGA/VGA. [BOLOBAL] Bolo Ball 1.2 (Soleau, William; $12) is a challenging strategy game where the objective is to get your marbles to drop as far down the screen as possible. This sounds pretty simple, but the screen is filled with ramps, walls, black holes, and other obstructions. You can play against the computer or a human opponent. Their marbles also get in your way. The animated EGA/VGA graphics are very nicely done. This is another quality "thinking" game from the author of the Bolo Adventure series. [BORDRSE] Border 1.1 (Cascoly Software ASP; $20) is a strategy game in which you try to enclose more areas than your opponent. Your aim is to make the largest triangles you can, while selecting points to block your opponent's triangles. Players take turns claiming points within a rectangular area, trying to make triangles connecting those points. If a proposed triangle is clear of your opponent's points and intersects no other triangles, your score increases by the area of that triangle. The first player to enclose more than 40% of the available area wins. [BUBBLE] Bubble Trouble (Strategy Games; Franklyn Dodd; $5) is a strategy game which you can play against the computer or a human opponent. You get points every time you can line up three bubbles of your color. The trouble is that sometimes when you drop a bubble down the chute, it may break one or more bubbles below it, so you have to learn which type of bubbles will break which other types. Some will do strange things like change the colors of the bubbles below it, so you have to be careful if you see that your opponent has one of those bubbles coming up. This is an extremely challenging game; in addition, it has interesting graphics. [CASCADE] Cascade 1.9 (PC Solutions; $15) is a strategy game played against the computer. A maze of letters is presented on the screen, scattered with balls and other objects. You take turns with the computer removing a letter, and the balls cascade down the gaps left. On reaching the bottom, they will enter your hopper and add a value to your score. [DEADEND] Dead End (Huenefeld Software; $20) is a unique strategy game for up to 6 players. You must choose a path through the streets and avenues of the board and mark each turn of your path with an arrow. The object of the game is to be the last player on the board to reach a dead end. Features include nine selectable levels of difficulty for computer opponents, adjustable time-limit countdown clock, mouse support, and more. Requires 640K, VGA, and DOS 3+. [HURKLE] Hurkle Hunt 2.5 (Voss, William R.; $0) is an amusingly-done game in which you try to trap the soon-to-be-extinct "Hurkle". [MICEMEN] Mice Men 1.0 (Soleau Software; $12) challenges you to guide your 12 mice across the playing area before the computer's mice make it across the opposite direction. You and the computer take turns shifting columns up or down, which opens up spaces for the mice to travel in both directions. Your moves can let the computer's mice move too, so you have to play carefully. EGA/VGA required. [MO_STONE] Moraff's Stones 3.1 (Moraffware; $0) is a barter-gambling game played against monsters. The monsters are easy to beat at first, but each time a monster gets wiped out, it is replaced by a more intelligent and stingy monster. Eventually you are surrounded by malicious, hard-core gamblers at the highest levels of the game. [NINEMEN] Nine Men's Morris (Langin, Chet ASP; $10) is an ancient game of strategy played on a special board in which the object is to get three pieces in a row and take the opponent's pieces. You can play against the computer. There are several levels of difficulty. [STARLORD] Starlord (Cox, Keith W.; $0) is a complex game where you start as a cadet and work your way up to commander. As you are moving through the ranks, the challenge is to convert all the planets and bases of a given sector to be friendly to the Empire. [GREEN] Green 1.11 (Cascoly Software ASP; $25) pits you against mall developers and real estate agents who want to turn farms into parking lots. You must plant hedges, add walls, and destroy pavement. Requires VGA/EGA. Mouse is recommended. [LUCKYNUM] Lucky Numbers 1.01 (Ens, Thomas; $10) gives you one year to make a million dollars at the Lottery. As a disgruntled former Lottery employee, you will use every means at your disposal to win. You can bribe officials, get a loan at the bank, and pay sleazy informers for number tips. If your standing in the community falls too low, you may be arrested for cheating. Also included is a utility for selecting a lottery number based on your name and birthdate. [OAKFLAT] Oakflat Nuclear PPS 3.1sw (GAMTECH/Gamble Technologies ASP; $18) Oakflat Nuclear Power Plant Simulator simulates a pressurized water nuclear fission power plant. You are responsible for safely controlling a light-water pressure fission reactor and generating electricity at a profit. The simulator creates random events such as equipment failures, fires, earthquakes, and terrorist attacks. Score is based on amount of power generated, damage to plant, and finances. [RRSWITCH] RailRoad Switch Challenge (Miller, Fred; $25) is a railroad car switching game. The screen shows a railroad switching yard with several freight cars in different places. You are given an assignment to move some freight cars to other sidings and assemble the other cars in a specific order on the main track. You move the cars by changing track switches, coupling and uncoupling, etc. Demerits are issued for running over switched track and bumping into cars. The object is to complete the assignment with the fewest possible moves and demerits. [SILENDF] Silencer (Foss, Donald E.; $10) is a military strategy game in which you'll battle with seven different creatures that vary in number, speed, and strength. There are 15 levels of competition and various skill levels. VGA required. [SORCERY] Spectrum Sorcery 1.0 (Bollinger, David; $10) Two players compete on a multi-colored playing board, moving around different computer opponents and 11 board layouts are available. requires VGA and a mouse. [SUPMAX] Super Maxit 2.0 (Expert Source Code, Inc.; $15) is a graphic version of the traditional, strategic board game, Maxit, with a few twists. It has the ability to choose different board shapes and sizes that are filled with numbered squares. When you choose a number in a row, then the computer picks on in the column you chose, then you pick from the row the computer chose, and so on. Some numbers are negative and the strategy is to try to force the computer to pick from a column that has lower numbers than the one you picked. The higher number total wins. EGA or VGA required. [SUPRNIM] Super Nim 1.0 (Stanton Computing; $10) is an interesting version of the game of Nim, which you play against the computer. VGA required. [WEBS] Webs (Cascoly Software ASP; $20) you must capture more nodes on the different webs than the computer does. A variety of webs and computer playing strength levels keeps things interesting. Requires a mouse and EGA/VGA. [WIZARD] Wizard Games (Wizard Games; $various) WIZCOMP is a collection of games that can be run from one menu: Amaze is a fast action, scrolling-screen maze-based arcade game. Coach turns you into a football coach. Masterbrain is a card guessing game. Millionaire challenges you to make a million dollars. Stockmarket lets you experience the ups and downs of playing the stock market. Greyhound ($25) puts you in charge of a greyhound racing kennel. You must buy and sell dogs, visit the vet and bet on races in your quest to win the Championship Trophy in this unique simulation. Capitalist ($25) is a detailed game of capitalist business management. [WOWZEE] WOWZEE (BSX International; $5-$10) combines poker, Yahtzee and Mah-jongg. [YERMONY] YerMony is a collection of a few simple games with some rather bizarre embellishments.
