CCIZip supports all of the PKWare and most of the McAfee options. PKZip (#1705) and McAfee's Scan (#7397) are required. Del@Zip (DELZIP) Compu Pro Services $10 lets you select a Zip file and delete files in the same directory that are in the Zip file. Intended for cleaning up directories after dearchiving a file. Drag & Zip and ZipView 2.40 (DRAGZIP) 08-93 CD Baumbach, Dan ASP $25 enhances the use of PKZIP. You can drag files from File Manager and drop them on D&Z which will then use PKZIP on them to compress them into Zip files. Requires Win31 and PKZIP. Zip View will show you the contents of the Zip file. You can view files, run programs, delete files and extract any file or group of files from the Zip file. Easyback (EASYBAK) lets you compress a directory using PKZIP and copy it to a floppy just by clicking on an icon. Freeze! 1.0 REEVEsoft $10 is a file compression utility for Windows. This is not a shell to an external utility, but an actual Windows application. It is not particularly speedy, but it does fully support Window's non-premptive multi-tasking capabilities and has four different priority settings. You can selectively add or extract files from an archive, and it allows you to view the contents of an archive with time, date, and compressed/uncompressed file sizes. Image 1.0 Mandic, Aleksandar $10 creates an image of an entire floppy disk in an archive on your hard disk. LHAWin 1.0 Bennett, Earl $0 is a point-and-shoot Windows interface to LHA. An extensive help file describes all commands/options in detail. We could not get it to create a self-extracting archive, but all the other options worked. It also allows you to start Windows programs as icons. EditReplay (EDREPLA) Gowani, Irfan $20 provides easy access to previously entered commands for Windows. MultiApp 0.9 (MULTIAP) Navas, John II $0 will start multiple applications (Windows or DOS) from the Windows command line. SmilerShell 1.1a (SSHELL) (10-93 CD) Bardon Data Systems $10 is a powerful replacement for Program Managers Run dialog. It allows you to type in commands to run DOS programs, Windows applications, or even DOS internal commands. A command line editor lets you retrieve previous commands, and commands may be saved for later playback. Other features include a fast directory change utility, the ability to assign commands to function keys, a clock/free memory/resource display, and much more. Requires WIN31. WinCLI 3.0 Eschalon Development Inc. $35 gives you a DOS-like operating environment in Windows, for those of you who miss the DOS prompt. You can change directories, run programs and more, just as if you were at the real DOS prompt. Over twenty DOS commands are available including Prompt, MkDir, RmDir, Rename, Del, Dir, Path, and more. Other features include the ability to change fonts and colors, and command line editing with history. WinCommand 1.10b (WN-CMD) 09-93 CD Vesperman, Matthew S. $20 provides a familiar DOS-like command prompt in Windows. It will support several DOS commands from within its own window (DIR, MD, CD, etc.). WinCmd 0.9 (WIN-CMD) Frazier, Robert E. $20 is a command line interpreter for Windows. It emulates many COMMAND.COM functions and allows background copies, task management, enhanced DIR lists, and more. The program runs DOS or Windows programs from the command line. WinRunner 2.0 (WINRUNR) Heath, Ian $? (formerly WinStart) is a stub which causes a Windows application to load Windows when the user tries to execute the app in DOS. It can start Windows, display a message, or work in conjunction with BackMenu (#3545) in 386 mode to start a program under Windows. Also included: GLUE by D. J. Murdoch, which lets you paste the stub into existing programs. Finder 1.0 (CLIKFND) The TrogloByte $15 is a file finding utility that can search across several drives. Once you have located files, you can call up your editor to view them, delete or rename them, or execute them. You can work with the found file list to compare dates, attributes, sizes, and names, and even perform binary comparisons. File Search 1.0 (FSEARCH) Sax, Mike $19 allows fast and easy file searching in the Windows environment. Multiple drives can be searched and advanced wildcards may be used. The program searches in the background so you can work on other applications. Found filenames can be copied to the clipboard so you don't have to remember them. The File Tool 2.0 (TFT) Erz, Frank $30 allows you to search multiple drives for files and specific text. Wildcards are allowed during searches. Double-clicking on found files brings up a box displaying the name, path, file size, time, date, and attributes of the file. You can then view the file in ASCII or Hex, and clip it's contents to the Clipboard. You can also rename, copy, move, delete, and change attributes of the file just by clicking on the proper icon. Nifty James' File Finder for Windows 1.05 (NJWFIND) Blaszczak, Mike $15 allows you to search your drives for files. Wildcards are supported, and it can also search for files that are stored within common archive formats. ARC, ARJ, DWC, LZH, LHA, PAK, ZIP, and ZOO archive formats are supported. You can optionally get information on found files, and you can run files if they are executable or if their extensions have been assigned associated apps. PsL File & Text Finder (PSLFIND) Ford, Nelson ASP $0 searches a drive for specified file names and/or specified text in files. Wild cards are supported. Matching files are displayed in a List box and may be viewed in Notepad by double-clicking the file name. VBRUN required. Searcher 2.0 (SEARCHR) Cognitronix $22 finds files by name, size, date, or by text in the files. It searches across multiple disks and directories. Wildcards are supported. A list of files found is displayed. You can view files by launching their apps. Multiple files can be displayed simultaneously as text or in hex. It allows multiple keystrokes to be assigned to function keys and executed from any Windows application. You hit a single function key to begin recording, the same function key to stop recording, and another function key to play back your keystrokes. HotKey 1.1 (HOTKEYW) Software GT $20 lets you assign program execution to a single keystroke. It also lets you assign three common procedures to function keys: Close Top Window, Maximize Top Window, and Minimize Top Window. KeyNote 1.1 Yocum, Mike $0 lets you adjust the delay time for key repeat. The Control Panel only lets you adjust the repeat rate. Macro Manager 1.5 (MACQ) Ruzicka, John $25 lets you program any number of keystrokes into a two-key macro. You simply use a combination of the slash key (/) followed by any of the 26 letter keys. This can save you lots of time if you have to type in repetitive information. VBRUN300 is required. PsL Pause (PSLPAUS) Ford, Nelson ASP $0 is a Pause button for Windows. The Pause button on the keyboard does not work in Windows, thus the need for this utility. Requires VBRUN. Syswid $0 is a set of Recorder macros to restore the keyboard shortcuts for system menu items. These disappeared in Windows 3 for some unknown reason. You can simply click on one of the 66 cursors/symbols that are included to make the change. You can also configure Windows to start with a selected pointer. This is an extremely useful utility for laptop users. Dragger 1.0 Leotti, George $15 lets you do a mouse drag or double-click with single clicks of the mouse. Dragger is designed primarily for people with physical impairments, but it is so fast and easy to use that anyone may wish to use it. Instead of doing a click-drag, for instance, you click the right mouse button, click once on the element to be dragged, and once again on the spot for it to be dragged to. Fast-Paste 1.14 (FASTPST) Nee, Robert F. $10 enhances Window's cut-and-paste interface in a DOS window (ie: not "full screen"). It allows you to use the left mouse button for cutting and the right mouse button for pasting, which is much more convenient than using the Edit menu. This only works in 386 enhanced mode. MousePad 1.0 (MOUSEPD) Custom 'Q' Services $1 allows you to use the mouse (or other pointing device) to type with an on-screen keyboard. It will then copy the text string to the clipboard for pasting into another application. Mouse Warp 2.05 (M-WARP) (10-93 CD) Toggle Boolean $14 is a powerful multi-purpose mouse enchancement utility. It allows you to change the shape of the mouse pointer to make it more visible, and select either a left or right-handed pointer. An option is also provided to make the mouse blink after a specified interval of inactivity, so it will be easy to find. Pos 1.21 (POS-MOU) Feinleib, David $5 shows the cursor's coordinates relative to the whole screen as well as to the active window. It stays in front of other applications, so you can see it while you work. RightOn 2.0 (RIGHTON) McCarthy, Steve $15 allows you to program the right and middle mouse buttons to send virtually any keystroke to the window the mouse is in. Features include the ability to send simulated left mouse double clicks, independent left and right mouse button configuration, and the ability to send keystroke combinations of the Shift/ Alt/Control keys. Requires WIN31. Whiskers 2.6b (WHISKRS) Numbers & Co. $15 lets you press the right mouse button to select default reponses in dialog boxes, just as if you had pressed the Enter key. This avoids the nuisance of either having to reach for the keyboard or move the mouse pointer to the "Ok" box to click the left button. The effect can be toggled off and back on by double clicking on the Whiskers icon. We could not get it to work with some things, such as the "Ok" button when adding a new program in the Program Manager, but it did work in the File Manager. Other features include the use combinations of the Shift/Ctrl keys and mouse buttons to create up to eight different macros, the ability to do a double- click in one click, and simulation of a middle button on two-button mice. You can have an icon bounce around the screen, an icon with the time, a moire pattern, or nothing at all. Movie Time Screen Saver (MTSS) Starlight Software Co. $22 is a unique screen saver for Windows 3.1 that can play full-motion AVI movies. It can also display GIF, PCX, and BMP graphics in a slideshow fashion. It can be customized with passwords, and sound can be toggled on and off. (Requires Microsoft video drivers for AVI animation.) Save Screen Now! (SAVENOW) Data Arts $5 this little utility runs as an icon and lets you invoke the Windows 3.1 screen saver by simply double-clicking on it. It has a stay-on-top option to make it visible when you are running full-screen applications. SpaceFish (SPACEF) Groetzinger, C. $0 is a set space craft displays for use with the popular screen saver FISH! SS 1.5 Wheeler, Tom $0 is a nice little screen saving utility. Delay times can be set between 1 and 999 minutes. An icon is bounced around the screen until mouse or keyboard movement is detected. Source code is included. VidSaver (VIDSAVR) $0 is a screen saver for Windows 3.1. It displays real time video from the Video Blaster card by Creative Labs. Harry's Screen Blanker 3.15 (HSBLANK) Snyder, Harry C. $10 is a customizable screen saver with password security built in. You can modify colors, line frequency, composition, and delay time. It will blank the screen if a DOS program is iconized and active, but won't blank a full screen DOS window. Several different screen blankers are provided, and it will tell you how many times someone tried to enter in a password to unblank the screen. Hot Spot! 1.0c (HOTSPOT) LMDC $4-$15 lets you instantly start or disable the Windows 3.1 screen saver by moving the mouse cursor to a specified corner of the screen. This corrects an odd oversight on the part of Microsoft (screen savers normally have this feature built in). Marquee Selector 1.0 (MARKEY) Worley, Tim $0 lets you store and retrieve up to 25 different messages for the Windows 3.1 Marquee screen saver. Three default messages are also available at the click of a button. It also allows you to blank the screen immediately after selecting a new message. RandScrn 1.0 (RNDSCRN) Feinleib, David A. $16 allows Windows 3.1 to pick a screen saver at random. It can also be configured to automatically change to another screen saver after a certain number of seconds. The program allows you to create a "play list" of screen savers you want to be selected randomly, and lets you select which directory you want to store your screen savers in. It also allows you to select corners of the screen to which the mouse cursor can be moved to make the screen savers active or inactive. SaveNow Data Arts $5 lets you activate the Windows 3.1 screen saver by simply moving the mouse cursor to the upper left corner of the screen. Screenplay 1.1 (SCRPLAY) Kamyan Software $15 is a spectacular screen saver. It includes several excellent preset displays, but also provides a variety of controls to allow you to design your own. You can optionally use it as animated wallpaper (ie: displays in the background behind your windows and icons), or display screen designs in tiled format. A hotkey allows you to capture the current animation to the Clipboard, and password protection is available. This is one of the most interesting Windows screen savers yet. Screen Saver Activator 1.2 (SCRNACT) Rossi, Chris $0 lets you easily activate Windows 3.1 screen saver. You can invoke the screen saver by putting the mouse in the upper left corner of your monitor screen, or simply click the right mouse button on program's icon. Magic ScreenSaver 1.40 (MAGICSS) Software Dynamics $25 displays beautifully animated Moire patterns on your screen during periods of non-use to prevent burn-in of the monitor. It can also provide password protection for your machine that even works across rebooting of Windows. You can get blanking on demand simply by moving the cursor to the corner of the screen and the period of non-use is user definable. Magic uses very little memory, the graphics are terrific, and the animated icons are very unusual. Projector for Windows (PRJCTR) Nunnally, Bruce P. $15 is a customizable screen saver module for Windows 3.1. It can play AVI animation files, or you can create your own scripts with a combination of BMP and WAV files. Savers Harris, Gordon $5 is a set of new screen savers for Windows 3.1. Different cursors can be assigned to window classes, even within the same application.
