You can play it without either product, but either one will greatly increase your enjoyment of the game. It's nice to be able to pace back and forth, barking orders and receiving verbal reports (and hearing actual sounds from the show) instead of sitting hunched over a keyboard, reading a screen and listening to random Beeps. Dueling Starships A.00.00 (DSS) D'Angelo and Dea $15 is a two-player real-time battle between opposing starships. The computer screen and keyboard are split in half allowing the captains of both starships to play simultaneously. PDTrek 2.5 McLawhorn, Carl $? is about as far removed from the old non-graphics mainframe "Star Trek" games as the Enterprise is from a row boat. The further back you go in playing Star Trek on old clunkers like the TRS-80 or old mainframes, the more you will appreciate the color and graphics of this EGA version. Expanded help screens are provided, and replays are allowed. Intra-Galactic Battles Hause, William D. $10 #20012/2960 is a detailed and sophisticated "Star Trek" type of game. It features great sound effects and beautiful graphics on EGA/VGA of up to 640x480 resolution and 16 colors. One player can battle computer controlled ship(s) or play against other human players. Even the documentation, which describes the state of the known universe, makes for interesting reading. Tommy's Trek Tommy's Toys $? #20012/1635 is a different version of the old non-graphics Star-Trek type game, but with music and real-time animation, as well as a complex autopilot which runs the ship for you if desired. Turbo Trek JDG Simulations, Inc. $15 #20012/4017 puts you in charge of a starship in combat. You can choose from a variety of scenarios and how to allocate energy among the ship's devices. You can also design your own scenarios. You can play against the computer or against other players. Requires EGA/VGA and a mouse. Visual Star Trek $0 #4745 is a Star Trek type game. This is a beta version with no documentation, but anyone familiar with Trek type games should not have any trouble figuring it out. The program uses VGA graphics and sound and has many interesting features. A mouse is required and is used to issue all commands. As the mouse cursor passes over an object (planet, star, Klingon ship, etc.), a description of the object appears. You move the Enterprise by clicking on the desired location. Ancients I: The Deathwatch FARR-WARE $24 #20014/4086 is a 3-D fantasy adventure game with outstanding graphics. Your party of four characters must explore the city of Locklaven and ultimately enter the dungeon to eradicate an unknown evil. You can visit several shops, bartering for weapons and food and drink. You can try your luck at the Wheel of Despair at the Casino, or toss down some ale at the Dragon Inn. Within the Temple of Healing, the priests can heal your character or even resurrect the dead. Only the proper mixture of magic, wits, and brute strength will prevail against the powers of darkness. A mouse and 1.3+meg of disk space are required. Conquest for Global Domination Bayless, Mark C. $10 #20014/2219 is a game in which you keep your country's population alive and eliminate all other players' and Robots' countries. At the start of the game this does not appear difficult, and indeed with experience it isn't. However, the Robot countries have the same objective and will aggressively attack you as they deem fit, other players obviously are in the same situation you are. To stay alive and eventually conquer the world, you will need to manage your resources, and effectively employ defensive and offensive strategies using the weapons and defenses available to you. Facing the Empire MVP Software ASP $15 #20014/3440 challenges you to save the universe from utter conquest by the dread Morte Star Empire. You must build up the Lyran fleets, gather intelligence on the Morte, and search the stars for the Morte bases. Can you stop these insane intergalactic interlopers? Starlord Cox, Keith W. $0 #20014/1472 is a complex game where you start as a cadet and work your way up to commander. As you are moving through the ranks, the challenge is to convert all the planets and bases of a given sector to be friendly to the Empire. Bandor 1.1 Magic Lemon Software $20 #20072 [4 disks] is a 3-D "Dungeons and Dragons" type graphic adventure game. In your quest to become a hero of Bandor, you will assemble a party of daring adventurers to prevent the evil Storm King's minions from overrunning your city. Visit the armory to obtain weapons, and head to the Training Grounds to improve your fighting skills and increase your magical knowledge. The Priests of P'Tah will offer you healing (for a small fee), and valuable information can be overheard at the Keg & Ale tavern. This is a very vast game, with impressive graphics and an excellent mouse-based interface. Requires 2.25 meg of hard disk space, MCGA or better video, and 580K free RAM. Sound Blaster support is also provided. Bandor II: Wrath of the Storm Giant King Magic Lemon Software ASP $20 #20101 is the second in a series to the 3-D graphic adventure game, Bandor (above). Bandor II takes you through the forest to meet Wanaidi and Roligel, to the slums to fight the Dark Servants, and to a cave to fight the Storm Giant King Wraith. Castle Escape Jarrett, Eric $5-$12 #20013/4174 You must find your way out of a gloomy dungeon. You will need to obtain items along your journey to accomplish certain tasks, but you must be careful not to get the wrong items or use these items at the wrong moment. EGA/VGA and over 1 meg of disk space are required. Caves of Thor Volumn 1 Replogle, Todd $10 #20013/2626 is a 16-color arcade/adventure game with a four-way scrolling playfield. You discover a vast underground empire, an immense network of caves, passages, and chambers on an expedition in the icy mountains of Norway. Overcome the many creatures that patrol it. It features great music and hazards such as lava pits, a Thor Beast, and flowing streams. Also included is Pharoah's Tomb (George Broussard; $25), which lets you travel through a pyramid, trying to avoid various monsters and traps. Moria Koeneke, Robert A. and Wilson, James E. $0 #20013/1163 is a single-player dungeon simulation. A player may choose from a number of races and classes when creating their character, and then run that character over a period of days, weeks, even months; attempting to win the game by defeating the Balrog which lurks in the deeper levels. The player will begin his adventure on the town level where he may acquire supplies, weapons, armor, and magical devices by bartering with various shop owners. The game of MORIA is a complicated and challenging game, and will require a dedicated player to win. Requires 640k and a hard disk. Dungeons of Kairn Lawrence, Mike $15 #20013/1811 is an exciting fantasy adventure game. You are to find the three lost artifacts of power that could destroy Kairn. When you have recovered all three of the remaining Artifacts, venture to the Island of Mysterion and destroy the Mad Mage Inshanis. An optional initiative system causes monsters and characters to act on an individual basis. Dracula In London SDJ Enterprises, Inc. $9 #7693/2220 recreates all the suspense and horror of Bram Stoker's original novel. In this game you assume the role of a vampire hunter. Explore haunted mansions and much more. Insanity Wizard Games $20 #7693/2577 is a huge maze-based adventure game where insanity rules. Find clues, solve puzzles and try to stay alive where the unexpected is common, and pandemonium is at every turn. This is a highly challenging and entertaining game suitable for all of the family. Moraff's Revenge Beginner MoraffWare $0 #7693/2224 is a 3d maze adventure game in which you must explore dungeons, fighting monsters and searching for goodies. Moraff's World 7.0 [MORFWRLD] 08-93 CD Moraffware $? #7693/3642 is a fantastic 3-D maze adventure game. This is a massive extension and improvement of Moraff's Revenge (#2224). It has 16 levels of dungeons and 20 classes of monsters, and provides a panoramic 360-degree view of the surrounding dungeons. As you explore different areas, a map of where you have been is revealed. The outstanding graphics are compatible with many video configurations, from monochrome to Super VGA. 640K RAM is required, and a 286 or faster machine is recommended. Moraff's Dungeons of the Unforgiven I 1.1 [UNFORGIV] 08-93 CD MoraffWare $? #20222 [2 disks] is a dungeons and monsters game. You battle flying monsters, female warriors, and water creatures. It features realistic 3D imaging, built-in help, and support for Hercules to Super-VGA video. Requires a hard disk or high density floppy. Hugo's House of Horrors Gray Design Associates ASP $20 #7719/2223 is a challenging adventure game that uses a combination of colorful 3-D animated graphics and text. You control Hugo's destiny as he tries to rescue his sweetheart, Penelope, who is imprisoned inside the haunted house. EGA and over 900K of disk space is required. (Don't ask us for advice; we couldn't get past the Mad Scientist.) Hugo II: Whodunit? Gray Design Associates ASP $20 #7719/3168 is an animated 3D adventure game by the authors of Hugo's House of Horrors. This time a murder mystery is afoot with a couple of fiendish twists and a large helping of humor along the way. There's a revolving bookcase, a saucey French maid, a murderer, and lots more with many different screens and characters. Requires EGA, 360K, and over 900K of disk space. Hugo III: Jungle of Doom Gray Design Associates ASP $24 #7719/4177 [2 disks] is the third installment of this popular adventure game series. Can Hugo outwit the evil witch-doctor, find the mysterious pool of life, and finally defeat his arch-enemy the Old Man? The game features excellent EGA/VGA graphics, a turbo mode for high-speed exploring, built-in hints, and much more. Requires 400K RAM and 1 meg of hard disk space. DC Games 3.0 [DCGAMES1, DCGAMES2] 08-93 CD DC Software $45 #20221 [2 MegaDisks] allows you to create graphical adventure and role playing games. This system supports for up to 1000 worlds with 500 characters or objects per world; predefined scripts for a variety of character types and classes, object types and classes and world types; graphic files for CGA, EGA, VGA and TANDY screens; and a script programming language to modify just about every aspect of the game. Other features include Sound Blaster voice, music and text to-speech drivers; PCX graphics; execution of DOS programs under script control; and utilities to convert graphics, print reports, and create voice files. Dulles Tower McKeown, John $any #1395 is an Air Traffic Control simulator that provides a realistic representation of the responsibilities incurred while working in a real airport control tower. This does not have a lot of slick graphics that might appeal to the casual game player; we suspect that you have to really be into aviation to appreciate this program. CGA-compatible video required. First Expedition Englestad, Steve ASP $24 #7721/4180 [2 disks] is a seagoing graphic adventure game. You are an explorer navigating and searching out old and new islands in a fantasy ocean world of sea monsters, storms, and mazes. Each day is about an eight-minute period. The world being explored is 20,000 by 20,000 units. Longitude and latitude are measured by these coordinates. Navigation is done by the night stars. Denarius Avaricius Sextus 1.6 Thorsoft $15 #12072 is a graphical adventure game about a red-haired Roman named Avaricius. Avvy must make his way through Pompeii, escaping lions, blackmailers, and his nagging wife. Features include integrated shoot-'em-up, menu or command control, boss key, save/restore, and corny jokes. Requires EGA/VGA and 1.4MB disk space. Evets Ackerman, Steven P. $10 #7175/1920 [3 disks] is a role-playing fantasy adventure game. The program creates a drama where the player(s) are in a world of animated mythology. Each player is a roguish character living by his wits who attempts to challenge the fabulous spirits, sprites and monsters of folklore. Players explore endless labyrinths and dungeons in search of treasure and glory. FRP (Fantasy Role Playing Utility) Meier, W. Jeff & Hitchcock, Bill S. $20 #1161 this product is aimed at providing Game Masters of Dungeons and Dragons and Advanced D&D with a tool that eliminates many of the time consuming chores of the Game Master. This product is not a game, itself. In fact, if you don't know what a D&D Game Master is, you don't need this disk. If you DO know what it is, we highly recommend this disk. HogBear Hogbear Software, Inc. $10 #1763 is an adventure text/graphics game fashioned after the game of CASTLE. A few interesting twists have been added to the game. The monsters can be reincarnated at random and you'll have to watch out for the Hogbear! Other features are a save-as-you-play mode and the ability to toggle sound on and off. The Last Half of Darkness Soft Lab $22 #20015/3520 Your strange Aunt (rumored to be a witch) has recently died while working on a powerful magic potion. You are her only living relative and you can gain title to her estate and fortune if you continue her studies in the field of magic. Thus begins an excellent adventure, as you search the creepy old house for the missing ingredients to the magic potion. The graphics are really nice, and scary sounds and actual talking can be heard through your PC speaker. Sound Blaster support is provided for enhanced sound effects. Use of a mouse speeds game play along, but is not required. EGA/VGA and a hard disk are required. Quick Majik Adventure Neurosport $37 #20015/3444 is a graphical adventure game with spells, monsters and magic items. It offers detailed, colorful VGA and EGA graphics, but it will work on CGA systems too. Requires a hard disk or high density disk. The Rescue of Lorri in Lorrinitron BC Software $5 #20015/4014 is a graphic adventure game in which the beautiful Princess Lorri has been kidnapped, and your services are required by the King to rescue her. You must recruit allies in your quest, fight the denizens of darkness, and face unknown danger at every step. The screen is normally a window that pans across the countryside as you move. When you enter a village or castle, the screen zooms in for more detail. EGA/VGA and over 900K of disk space are required. Xoru Castle Technologies $20 #20015/3043 is a pseudo-medieval story-quest where you compete to conquer the great Evil Titan. Features include sound effects, challenging puzzles, scary monsters, secret treasures, and lavish descriptions. MythMaster Standley, Carol L. $25 #7757/4330 [3 disks] is a vagabond's adventure in 3-D. As Anton Schlepp, you must change your vagrant image to likable young hero MythMaster. You'll explore a kingdom of over 70 locations, talk with many characters and perform deeds. You will also encounter some danger on your quest. As you solve puzzles, your score will increase as it is compared to the total points possible in the game. Requires EGA/VGA, 384K RAM, and 2.5 meg of hard disk space. A joystick is optional. Nethack Fenlason, Jay $0 #7740/1489 [2 disks] is a game of 28+ levels, 150+ rooms, and countless corridors. Danger abounds in this game. Besides a huge inventory of monsters there are many traps awaiting the unwary. Also, many of the treasures you find (and you find plenty if you live long enough) turn out to be very hazardous to your health. In fact, if you are an average beginning player, we can safely predict that you will probably not get past level 3 during the first 10 games you play (unless you happen to fall through a trap door). Required: 512k, hard disk. Hack Kneller, Don $? #7740/484 is a "Dungeons and Dragons"-type game. Like the other Dungeons and Dragons game on the library, a hard disk or RAM disk is recommended. If you do not have RAM-disk software, see the "Disk Drives" section of the Guide. Hack is a display oriented "Dungeons and Dragons" type game. It is similar in style to ROGUE played on UNIX systems but HACK is much richer in character. Hack has many more monsters and highly varied magic. The motivation in Hack is to descend through the dungeon to find the Amulet of Yendor, then return to the surface. As you travel you will meet various creatures (most of them nasty), find objects (some having magical properties), and experience many hazards in the dungeon itself. Omega Brothers, Laurence R. $? #7740/1922 is a complex rogue-style game of dungeon exploration. There are a number of ways to win, and the game (via the oracle) may impose some structure on your exploration, but you need not follow all of the oracle's advice. The game is very similar to Rogue, Hack, Ultrarogue, Larn, and other such games. Requires 640K of memory and a hard disk. One Night in Sweden Gustafsson, Roger $20 #7177/2428 [2 disks] is a murder mystery adventure or role-playing game. It proceeds from a man's point of view, but women could play it too. This game is based on realistic interaction with the characters in the story. There are no "right" or "wrong" answers. You have to be smart and tactical to inspire confidence and get information, just like in real life. You have to be even smarter to use the clues and find out who the murderer is. The program features high-res black and white animated graphics and music. The game is different each time you play. Sleuth Miller, Eric $? #7177/741 is a murder-mystery adventure game. As you begin a game of SLEUTH a murder has just been committed. Your job is to mingle with the houseguests and to search the contents of the house until you feel you have solved the crime. Every game of SLEUTH is different so you must fully explore the house each time that you play. Itty Bitty Mysteries BEZ $10 #7177/4555 is a collection of five different mysteries to solve. Each mystery starts with a picture of the situation and a little background information. As you move the cursor around the screen, it will change into a magnifying glass when it touches a clue. When you are ready to solve the mystery, you are asked a series of question to see if you really have all the facts. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure these out, but you will have to pay careful attention to all the obvious (and not-so-obvious) clues at your disposal. Pirate #1199 is an interesting maze type of game in which you try to work your way through tunnels and ledges in and around a cave, looking for a pirate's treasure. Once found, you attempt to work your way back out without losing the treasure. Graphics and BASIC required. Also on this disk is a French-language adaptation of the game by Jean-Pierre Cabannes. The player may use the numeric keypad as direction keys, the labyrinth and catacombs are more complicated, and the second location of the treasure is at a random place. QuestMaker Marietta Co-opware $23 #3445 lets you play, modify and make your own animated graphical adventure games using QuestMaker editors in conjunction with a PCX compatible paint program. You can display an unlimited number of graphics during game play, and the program allows players to examine things closer, like maps, objects, and letters. RockStar Wizard Games $20 #2580 is a game in which you are trying to gain popularity and chart success in the crazy world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Your health, alertness, creativity, happiness, and drug intake are constantly monitored and must be carefully controlled. Rooms of the Abyss Binder, Martin & Lichtenwalner, Damon $2 #4753 is a 3-D role-playing adventure game. You will explore King Edward's castle, searching for the evil wizard Deerg. Collect armor, keys, and gold coins while doing battle with snakes, bats, and poisonous spiders. You will gain experience in your battles, and you must maintain health points to continue on. Stellar Explorer: The Drosi Encounter Dynamic Learning Systems $15 #7700/4094 [2 disks] is a graphic science-fiction role-playing game in which you must rescue a crippled alien spacecraft trapped in a decaying orbit. You can talk to alien crew members, pick up and use various items, operate equipment, buy and sell items, and much more. Will you discover the alien's sinister plot before it is too late? This is a very interesting game that combines elements of strategy, action, and adventure. EGA/VGA, DOS 3.2+, and a hard drive are required. Sword Quest 2 NGS Software $12 #12110 is a fantasy role-playing game based in a world of dragons, knights, and magic. Your quest is to free a world from the power of an evil dragon king. During pursuit, you are challenged by many divergent monsters and confusing puzzles. You get hints from people in towns you encounter, learn magical spells, and find hidden items. It features Adlib/Sound Blaster music support. Requires EGA/VGA. Wilderness Survival Carroll, Christian D. $12-$15 #1846 is a fantasy adventure game in which you get lost in the National Forest with only a Swiss Army Knife and have to find your way to the Ranger Station. Perils include fist fights with Paul Bunyan, Davy Crockett, and others as well as foot races with Indians. Meanwhile, Rugglestone Ripper is a murderer who has been hiding in the forest and it's up to you to solve the crime and bring him to justice. Wizard's Lair Nowalk, Rick $25 #7178/1636 [2 disks] is an adventure game where you will travel with a group through the wilderness, the wasteland or the hidden valley fighting various monsters.
