CrOsborne Currency Exchange Calculator

Installation instructions:

EXCHANGE.ZIP is an archive file containing four files:

   EXCHANGE.OPA - the Psion application.
   EXCHANGE.DBF - an initial data file to get you started.
   EXCHANGE.RSC - Psion help file.
   RDMEEXCH.TXT - these instructions.

Use WinZip and PsiWin (or whatever other means you normally use) to extract
the files.

Copy EXCHANGE.OPA to a directory called \APP on any Psion drive.

Copy the data file EXCHANGE.DBF to the \DAT directory on the internal
memory disc.

The Help file EXCHANGE.RSC can optionally be installed in the \OPD
directory. If you leave it out you can still enter registration details
but other help functions will not work.

On the Psion system screen postion the cursor to the right of where
you want the icon for Exchange to appear (I suggest next to the Calc icon)
and select Menu - Apps - Install  (press Psi-I). Exchange.opa should
appear in the list, select it. Finally you might like to assign the Ctrl+Calc
button combination to give you a shortcut to the application: position
the cursor under the Exchange icon which has appeared on the system screen,
select Menu - Apps - Assign button (or press Psi-A) and you can choose
a shortcut key combination.

Operation of the program should be self evident; if in doubt refer to
the help file. The program has only been extensively tested on a 1Mb Psion
3a - there are almost certainly undiscovered bugs and problems - if you
are first to find and report one I'll try and fix it and get a new version
to you.

No warranty is given or implied - you should always back up your data
regularly, use of the program is entirely at your own risk.

     (I use it regularly on my Psion without problems).

Memories

Eight memories are available and are shared with the
Psion Calculator application as M0 to M7.

Use the arrow keys in conjunction with the Psion
key to select the memory to use and to store or
recall numbers. 
Psi +  adds the current result to the current memory
Psi -  subtracts from the current memory the result
Psi *  multiplies the result by the current memory

This last option is very useful if you are in the
States where they price things without the local
tax. Store the tax rate in a memory (eg enter M0=1.06
in PsiCalc for a 6% rate) and press Psi * after each
conversion to see what you'll pay in real money.

Use the values M0 to M7 in the Psion calculator to
access the stored results of conversions.

Currency Data File

The country and currency details are stored in a
Psion Data file called M:\DAT\EXCHANGE.DBF.
If this is not found a default file will be created
containing Germany and USA only.

You can use the Data application to edit or add to
the file. Only the first five fields of each record
are used by Exchange Calculator - you can add
additional fields to store extra info if you wish.

Registered users can edit the data file from within
the CrOsborne Currency Exchange programme.

Exchange Rates

Currency exchange rates are stored in the data file
as rates to the UK Pound.  When converting between
two non-UK currencies the rate is calculated from
the two UK rates.  This calculated can be overridden
by setting a direct rate from the menu or key Psi D.
The current rates are saved in the prefernces file
when the programme is closed (Psi X).

Preferences File

Entering a valid registration code creates a file
M:\OPD\EXCHANGE.PRF.  As well as the user details
this file contains the current setup (countries,
rates, and default memory).  The setup is restored
when the programme is restarted.

If EXCHANGE.PRF is corrupted or deleted the
registration details will have to be re-entered.

Help File

This help file is M:\OPD\EXCHANGE.RSC.  It was
created with Jezar at Psion's Help Compiler kit.
If you are short of space learn the contents of
this file and then delete it. You will still be
able to access the Help-Registration dialog.

CrOsborne Currency Exchange Calculator for the
Psion 3a is copyright (c) Roger Creagh-Osborne,1998.
It is Shareware for individual use, registration costs
£10. Unregistered users can only convert to/from
Sterling, can only use one memory and can not edit the
data file from within the programme.
