                           WHAT IS IT?
The AirPower Advertising Network is a group of network
connected BBS systems offering an online marketplace to their
callers. More than just that, the AirPower Ad Network systems
share a common database of all ads! In a manner similiar to the
way these systems transfer and exchange echomail and network mail,
all ads in the network are available to be read on all systems in
the network!

                        HOW DOES IT WORK?
The heart of the AirPower Advertising Network is the
CLASSIFIED ADS Door by Sunrise Door Software, and its companion
Classified Ads Exchange Program. While this file will not attempt
to duplicate the software documentation, suffice it to say that
callers use it much like a qwk mail door, and it even comes with
its own Offline Ad Reader for the caller to download and use.
The door separates and organizes ads based on Topics and
Categories. A category is a subset of each topic. The program
allows for up to 30 Topics with each having an unlimited number of
Categories. In order to be a part of the AirPower Ad Network, it
is mandatory that all nodes run exactly the same Topics and
Categories, or else they will be tossed into the wrong slots as
ads are exchanged. What makes the AirPower Advertising Network
unique? The Online Marketplace is targeted at a fairly specific
group, which just happens to fit the profile of many if not most
of our callers, namely, the Computer Literate Outdoors and
Shooting Sports Enthusiast! Due to the Networking feature of the
door, here they will find many others of similiar interests to
buy/sell/trade with. While similiar, yet general interest
networks have started up using this door, they tend to see it as
an income producing venture. This may very well turn out to be
the case, but I see it mainly as a great enhancement to the
services we offer, to attract more users and thus give us a bigger
audience for our message. If it brings in enough funds to make a
dent in the phone bills too, that's great! Sample files are
included in this archive (ADAIRNET.ZIP) to show what the
categories and topics currently are. This is something all sysops
in the net should vote on though once we get started, as when the
databse gets larger it becomes harder to change topics and
categories. We should get any additions to the current setup in
there pretty close to the beginning. Look over what I have and
get back to me with suggestions.
The price structure for all ads will be $1.00 each per week
and/or $2.00 per month. Frankly I just pulled this number out of
thin air so we need to see how this works and vote on changes in
price. We might want to start out with all ads free to allow
users to "get acquainted".
All systems in the AirPower Ad Net must change the same
rates. Sysops of the bbs where the ad is originally posted will
keep 65% of revenue and forward the remaining 35% to the Net
Controller (not me!). Of this 35%, 10% will go into an
advertising fund to advertise the net, and the other 25% will be
REBATED TO ALL SYSOPS IN THE NET ON AN EQUAL SHARE BASIS. If you
are in the Net for the entire month, you have a share. If you
joined after the 5th of the month, your share will start the
following month. These percentages can be changed by a vote of
2/3 of the members, at any time.
In this way, systems which generate the most ads will make the most
income, yet newer, smaller members will still receive an equal
share of the "kitty". After all, they are providing an additional
display outlet for the material!

Important: Member sysops do not pay for ads posted by themselves!

                        NETWORK STRUCTURE
For the time being, the net will be a benevolent dictatorship
with me as the International Coordinator. I have a specific
vision for where I want to go with this. Once we get to a net of
50 nodes, and we have a 50 node net running for 6 months, the
position of International Coordinator will become an elected
position.
A Net Comptroller will be elected as soon as we have a dozen
nodes, to handle and account for advertising revenues, and to
audit posted ads and match against revenue. BBS's should also be
audited to make sure they are really online BBS's.
Hub structure will be developed as the net grows. For the
beginning, AirPower Information Systems will be the first and
primary hub.
All BBS's in the AirPower Advertising Network must run the
registered version of the Classified Ads Door by Sunrise Door Software.
The Magic filename CLASFY may be F'REQ'ed or downloaded from either
AirPower at (215) 259-2198, 1:273/408, 176:500/4, or direct from
Sunrise Software at (404) 705-9104 (14.4kbps), (404) 256-9525 (HST),
or 1:133/410.

                          THE GOOD PART!

By special arrangement with Sunrise Door Software, all systems
joining the AirPower Advertising Network will receive a special
discount when registering the Classified Ads Door and the
Classified Ads Registration Program! The regular price currently
is $30 for the Classified Ads program and $20 for the Classified
Ads Exchange Program. By mentioning that you are joining the
AirPower Advertising Network, you can REGISTER BOTH PROGRAMS FOR
JUST $30.00! These prices are scheduled to increase sometime in
September 1993 but in any case you will be able to register both
programs for the price of the Classified Ads Door alone!

                     MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

To become a member of the AirPower Advertising Network, you
must of course run a BBS and operate some type of mailing software
such as Binkley, FrontDoor, D'Bridge, etc. Your BBS MUST be
online 24 hours a day with certain exceptions for maintenance,
maile exchange, etc. As mentioned elsewhere the Comptroller will
audit compliance. Membership in FidoNet or some other FTN is
recommended but not required. You must agree to run the same
Classify.cat file as all other members, and abide by all policies
as stated or amended to this document. That's it.

                           CONCLUSION
Let me make it clear now that I receive no comission, rebate,
kickback or whatever from Sunrise Door Software for any software
registrations. What I get out of this is what you get out of
this: a GREAT new feature to enhance my BBS, generate new callers
(and keep them calling back) and maybe even bring in a little
revenue to help with the phone bill!
None of these policies here are written in stone. Anything may be
changed upon vote of 2/3 of the members. For example we will
probably want to set up an AirPower_AdNet_Sysop echo, but that can
be done once we get "up and running". I invite you to join me in
this enterprise. Thank you for reading this!
                            Jim Henry

Now that there are a few nodes please set up the echo AIR_SYSOP
for discussion and communication about the ad net. We'll need to
communicate often to grow this thing.
