                           Mary Jane's Last Dance
                           ======================
                              By: Tom Petty
Intro: Am (hammer on index finger) G D Am

   Am G
She grew up in an Indiana town
         D Am
Had a good lookin' mama who never was around
          Am G
But she grew up tall and she grew up right
             D Am
With them Indiana boys on an Indiana night

Well she moved down here at the age of 18
She blew the boys away, it was more than they'd seen
I was introduced and we both started groovin'
She said, "I dig you baby but I got to keep movin'"
   ...on, keep movin' on

   Chorus:
   D
   Last dance with Mary Jane
                                   A
One more time to kill the pain
   D
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm
                             A
   Tired of this town again

Well I don't know but I've been told
You never slow down, you never grow old
I'm tired of screwing up, I'm tired of bein' down
I'm tire of myself, I'm tired of this town
Oh my my, oh hell yes
Honey put on that party dress
Buy me a drink, sing me a song,
Take me as I come 'cause I can't stay long

   Repeat chorus:

There's pigeons down in Market Square
   She's standin' in her underwear
Lookin' down from a hotel room
   Nightfall will be comin' soon
Oh my my, oh hell yes
You've got to put on that party dress
It was too cold to cry when I woke up alone
I hit the last number, I walked to the road

   Repeat chorus and fade:

  BOOKSHLF by Jim Coleman
  Sysop, MLPNet Central (360)876-1639 -1650

With literally HUNDREDS of text files online for public consumption,
MLPNet has long been recognized as an important resource center to the
student, professional, or writer. With THREE Reading Rooms online, MLPNet
offers a wide variety of material, from Clinton jokes to guitar chords for
your favorite songs, to CD reviews, to technical texts, to the limits of your
  imagination.

In addition, MLPNet Central has forums for writers. By 1992, Jim Coleman had
MILLION words on the literary market. The pace slowed down due to a very
serious motorcycle accident, but 1995 will see three full-length novel
manuscripts by Jim Coleman travel over agency desks. This door was written
to encourage us to bring out those expressions which reside within us all,
and absorb those brought out by others.

AVAILABILITY: BOOKSHLF will be publicly released once I complete the
setup program and all the external testing is completed.

CONGRATULATIONS! We've decided to hire you, based on the information
  you provided in your resume!

Climbing the ladder of success in this company is long and hard.
Unless you want to work on the ground floor or in janitorial the rest
of your life, you've got to find a way to get to the top floors. Rumor
has it that the President and CEO of this company has terminal cancer
and EVERYONE is fighting for his job!

I started on the bottom, too, and look at me now. It was never
easy. Sometimes, I had to do some pretty unethical things to stay afloat
and in the running here for promotion. I had to lie, sneak around, and
even sleep my way up, at times. But, I must caution you, there are
laws against sexual harassment, so I wouldn't recommend that as an option.

You'll be given a retirement account and can accrue sick days, vacation,
etc. Be CAREFUL how you use these resources, or you may lose them
all and find yourself cleaning toilets.

A Text-Adventure game from Jim Coleman III, author of the QUAKE door!
MLPNet of Port Orchard, WA (360)876-1650, -1639

It's a nice evening, and you are relaxing. Neil Young sings 'Birds' in
the background, the fire crackles from the fireplace, your cat purrs in
your lap, and a glass of Chablis mellows on the end table beside you.

Suddenly, your entire world is upthrust as an earthquake hits with
astounding force! The silence is shattered by a roaring as if from a
thousand racing trains. Thirty seconds seem like thirty days and by the
time the shaking stops, you feel as if you have aged ten years. The
power flickers, but doesn't fail and within minutes, a news bulletin
flashes over the television screen. Moments later, CNN news crews scramble
to CalTech and Kate Hutton appears on your screen.

You know then that the phone will ring. You are a seismologist
and though you are now doing other things, you just KNOW that they
are gonna drag you out of retirement for this one. As you consider that
fact, another earthquake rips your world apart. Your phone rings. Your
electricity fails. You are all alone in an unstable world.

You quickly inventory your resources. You have:

                           CASH -- 1000 dollars
                         HEALTH -- 100 points
                       MEDICINE -- 10 vials
                     EXPERIENCE -- 100 points

Your skills and experience are going to be tested as you race to
the fracture zone. Other AFTERSHOCKS or even MAINSHOCKS may occur anywhere
and at any time! You may have to purchase plane tickets to fly to a new
quake zone, or you may have to help a wounded victim. REMEMBER, in a quake
zone, MEDICINE can be worth FAR more than money! It is imperative that
you spend your money and your time wisely. If you are careless, you could
                           become a victim yourself!

The MLPNet Central QUAKE door features current and recent press releases
from the National Earthquake Information Center on quakes occurring
around the world. A tremendous amount of earthquake information is
at your fingertips, including statistics and explanations, informative
discussions by some of the world's leading seismologists, earthquake
preparation texts and survival guides, texts on victim extrication from
heavy debris environments, local Port Orchard/Bremerton/Seattle hazard/
event updates, and a WHOLE LOT more! And, I wrote this program to be
DYNAMIC, meaning it has the capacity to change and grow on a daily
basis. There are no size or content limitations.

Local Bremerton and Seattle news media are already using this door
and accompanying programs. I'm receiving more support and assistance
from seismologists all over the country with this project and am
particularly indebted to TED SMITH, with the California Division of Mines
     and Geology.

YOU CAN ALSO ACCESS MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK information through
this door! From current fees to road closures to calendars of park
events, the MLPNet QUAKE door provides this to you, and MORE! From
the history of Rainier as a young volcano to the relatively recent
climbing history to its current seismicity/alert status, we bring you
the information you need. And, as if that weren't enough, the status of
other significant Cascade Range volcanoes are also tracked and
information is presented. In the Mount Rainier Sub-Board, you can find
additional information on Rainier's dangers and concerns, including
information on hypothermia, avalanches, wild animals and native plants.

The door presents a TIME-CLOCK, giving you the PRECISE number of days
since the last major Seattle area earthquake. It gives you the EXACT
number of days since the major St. Helens eruption and, soon, the number
of elapsed days since Rainier, Baker, Hood and Shasta last erupted.
We may even start counting down the number of days until Lowry can be
booted out of the governor's chair, just to keep things hopping!

Peter Bueschen, author of NORQUAKE.ZIP, and I have been talking a lot
lately about the need to educate and inform the public who live in
quake-prone areas. Like Peter says: "People sleep every night with that
big heavy bookcase right beside the bed or over their heads and think
nothing of it . . . until it lands on top of them." Our Seattle area
is FOURTH in the nation in seismicity. True, major quakes don't happen
very often, but when it comes to part of your house caving in on you and
crushing you in your sleep, once is enough. Be prepared. Stay informed.
Use the QUAKE door and MLPNet resources to educate yourself and
     those around you.

Stay tuned for our field trips to Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens! A
RESCHEDULING of the Restoration Point site may be made soon. Many of
you may remember that I had seismologists and geology experts and many
from Foundations in Science (then SciFacNet) set to converge on this
historic, local earthquake site July 22, 1993. Unfortunately, I was hit
by a car just TWO DAYS before that was to occur and am still disabled as
a result. I'll cross my fingers that I might heal quickly and be up to
the trip sometime this summer. (Meanwhile, you can download GIF images
of the uplifted beach, photographed by myself on an earlier trip. ;)

QUAKES and NASA are what we do, and NO ONE in this community does it
better! Stay tuned for further exciting developments. (Shhhhhh . . .
they are still secret, but are coming soon!)

What does this mean for you???

It means a better file selection. It means perpetual storage. It means
history, for you history buffs. It means NO DUPLICATE FILES! Most of you
know that MLPNet has nearly a full gig of hard drive space, 800 megabytes.
Now, with the latest from NASA and the USGS, plus all the other exciting
file areas I sponsor here, the drives fill up FAST! It takes about five to
six months to completely fill up the space, and that's with only 20 MEGABYTES
reserved on drive D: for my own use! Everything else in this computer is
  dedicated to MLPNet.

Bill Velez, a good friend of mine, who was sysop of The WINGS BBS here
in Port Orchard, had over 10 GIGABYTES online! Whew! But, he also confided
in me that at one time, he had OVER TWELVE THOUSAND DUPLICATE FILES!!!
You won't find that here at MLPNet Central. When I bought this board
way back when, the kid that was running it had four versions of this game,
six versions of that game, eight versions of this program and five versions of
the other program. It was a MESS, and took FOREVER to clean up! (I finally
ended up just deleting EVERYTHING off the drive and reinstalling the BBS from
  scratch!)

Here at MLPNet, I have about 12 CDRoms that I have pulled from. I
take what I consider to be the best off of each one, and copy it to my hard
drives. I check CONSTANTLY to make sure there are few, if any, duplicates.
Then, when all is done, I take my computer in and have a CUSTOM CDROM
made. When I get home, I reformat both drives, reinstall the board from
hard drive backups, and then have a LOT of writeable media again!

   MLPNet's DSNEWS!

One very OBVIOUS feature of MLPNet you won't find on most other systems is
our custom newsletter. DSNEWS (the DS stands for "DarkStar" from back when
we were the DARKSTAR ... BBS) is a provocative, informative newsmagazine
published EACH AND EVERY MONTH for the past 32 months! Bill Velez (former
sysop of WINGS) scoffed at my first issue, saying it would never last.
"You'll lose interest in it, Jim. You callers won't care; all they want
is files. REAL FILES. Who cares about text files? Who will care what's
  happening with your board?"

Well, I proved him wrong. With WORLD-WIDE circulation now, DSNEWS is quite
a hit! It's been downloaded MANY THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of times over the
past three years, and people still routinely download old back-issues! With
all the valuable information contained in these issues, an ONLINE CATALOGUE
exists on MLPNet, enabling callers to look up past articles, etc. Even
when I was hit by a car and nearly killed (July 1993) DSNEWS continued and
HAS NEVER BEEN RELEASED LATE. Not one issue has been missed in 32 months!
  Yes, Bill . . . it's amazing, it's astounding . . . it's DSNEWS!!!
