Introduction
************

This list comes from the book

              I MILLE
              written by Francesco Guardione
published by Libreria Internazionale A. Reber
              at Palermo (Italy) in 1913

The same list is included in

LA CAMPAGNA DI GARIBALDI NELL'ITALIA MERIDIONALE (1860)
(The Garibaldi's campaign in Southern Italy)
published by the Italian Ministry of War at Rome in 1928

The list given by the Ministry of War was first published in the "Giornale
Militare" (Military Journal) in 1864 as a result of an enquiry by a State
Committee.

This Committee had been created to determine, through proofs and witnesses,
the names of the volunteers who actually landed at Marsala on May 11, 1860.

***************************************************************************

In the source document the names are presented as in this example

    28. Archetti Giovanni Maria di Giacomo, da Iseo (Brescia)

that is with ordering number
                        surname
                        name(s)
                        father's name(s)
                        place of birth
possible further specification of place of birth

The further specification may be the name of a near bigger town (as in the
example), or a region, or a nation if the volunteer was not born in Italy.

In the following list the information has been rearranged to make easier
a possible automatic processing.

All the fields are comma delimited, the surnames are in uppercase, the
words "di,da" ("of,from") have been omitted.

A missing field is reported as ..... if subsequent fields exist.
Trailing missing fields are simply omitted.

Note: the name FUMAGALLI (n. 463) is annotated as "dead at the beginning of
      the expedition".
