There is a new service concept that allows
businesses to accept check payments over the telephone
or by fax -- and you can make money selling this
service to businesses. Many small (and a few larger)
businesses cannot get merchant credit card accounts.
These include many mail order, telemarketing, travel
and home-based businesses. These are businesses that
sell to retail consumers and are at a competitive
disadvantage because they cannot make credit card
          sales.
In addition, many consumers either don't have or
can't get credit cards. In fact, there are over 65
million people who have bank accounts but don't have
credit cards. Many other people who do have credit
cards are approaching their credit limits and cannot
          use the cards they have.
Now there is a service which helps both the seller
without credit card merchant status and the buyer
without the ability to use a credit card. With this
service, a buyer can make a purchase or pay a bill over
the phone simply by giving verbal authorization to the
          seller.
The buyer just tells the seller the pertinent
information such as the bank's ABA routing code, the
account number, the amount, and the check number. The
buyer then logs in the check, adjusts the balance and
throws away the blank paper check. There is no
physical check to write, no envelope, no stamp and no
          trip to the post office.
The seller notes the information on a form and
faxes it to the service provider. The service provider
writes the actual check and sends it by mail or courier
service within 24 hours (usually the same day) to the
seller. From that point, it's handled just like a
regular check. The merchant can deposit it, can hold
it until a specified date, can check to see if funds
are available to cover it, etc. The service provider
even offers a check guarantee service so that the
merchant doesn't ever have a bad check problem.
By enrolling a business in this service, you earn
an immediate commission. What's even better, though,
is the residual commissions you continue earning month
after month as your client companies use the service.
Businesses will want to continue using the checks-
by-phone service for two very big reasons. First of
all, there is less delay in getting their money this
way than by using credit cards. Their money isn't tied
up for weeks as a receivable. Second, and this will
surprise you, this service is significantly cheaper
than the processing fees charged by credit card
          companies.
