AB OBJECTIVE. The goal of the research is to determined role of
proinflammatory cytokines in HIV pathogenesis. METHODS. IL-1b, -6 &
TNF-a production, spontaneous and after PMA (5 ng/ml) stimulation, by
PMBC of 34 adults and 16 children were measured in ELISA & biotest. Data
were compared with the same in healthy persons, 42 children & 38 adults.
Data reliability confirmed by t Student criteria. RESULTS. Spontaneous
IL-1b, -6 & TNF-a production by PMBC of HIV patients were statistically
higher, when in healthy persons (p < 0,05). TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT
VOLUME. If the spontaneous levels of PMBC cytokine production were HIGH,
PMA stimulation led to a decreasing of cytokine production, but in
contrast if the spontaneous production were low PMA increased cytokine
production. High spontaneous levels of IL-1b, -6 & TNF-a correlated with
severity of ilness & progression of desease. The high correlation
observed with p24 attigenemia. CONCLUSIONS. Proinflamatoty cytokines
playing the important role inpathogenesis of HIV infection & spontaneous
production reflect the severity of illness.
