AB OBJECTIVES: Verify the presence of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria
Gonorrhoeae in patients with PID. PATIENTS & METHODS: 302 patients
attended at the Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre, in the Emergency
room and ambulatory of Gynecology were studied between march 89 and
september 93 to the presence of Chlmaydia trachomatis and Neisseria
Gonorrhoeae all patients were performed Culture in Thayer Martin Mediun
for gonococcus and Immunofluoresce direct and indirect to Chlamydia.
RESULTS: Of all patients 10%, were prostitutes (n = 30) so we compare
with the non prostitutes patients so we obtain the followings data: Not
       prostitute n = 272; Chlamydia trachomatis 31,5% Neisseria Gonorrhoeae
       17,4% Prostitutes n = 30; Chlamidia trachomatis 36% Neisseria
Gonorrhoeae 23% About the treatment there are in our School Hospital
Protocols with Penicillin, Tetracycline, thiamphenicol, so we consider
the diferents results with the diferents stages of Infection (Mild,
moderate and grave). The statistical study, Chi square & Fischer's exact
test, show us no statistical significance between prostitutes & non
prostitutes. CONCLUSIONS: PID in our region a very important disease, it
may represent 5% of all patients care in a year. Our data show us that
young women (72% until 30 years) and adolescents must be seen with
special attention (19% of nullipares) partner have to be examined
always, because our data reveals, men with urethrites (57%), don't tell
       this to his partner.
