 AB OBJECTIVE: To evaluate rheumatological manifestations in positive HIV
       patients. METHODS: 15 positive HIV patients were studied by the methods
       of Elisa and immunofluorescence exibiting musculoskeletal manifestations
       in the course of the disease. RESULTS: In the CDC classification they
       are as follows: II-6; III-2; IVc-6; IVd-1. The average period between
       diagnosis and rheumatic manifestations was 14 months and in 6 cases the
       initial ones. Occurrence: arthritis 7; artralgia 3; Reiter's syndrome 3;
       mycobacteria arthritis 3; LES-like 2; psoriasic arthritis, vasculitis,
       polyentesitis, mialgia 1. Six cases had more than one manifestation.
       Localization: knees 11; ankle 7; heel 4; hand PIP 3; foot MTP 2; wrists
       2; elbows, lumbar column, sacroiliacs, foot PIP 1. DISCUSSION AND
       CONCLUSIONS: Early rheumatological manifestations in all and in 6 were
       the initial ones. The AIDS arthritis was the most frequent manifestation
       and the articular localization resembled reactive arthritis. AIDS can
       simulate autoimmune diseases such as LES and polyarteritis nodosa.
