AB OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy of GLYKE, a Chinese herbal medicine,
in treating HIV/AIDS pts. METHODS: 112 HIV/AIDS pts (AC 15, ARC 25, AIDS
       72) were treated with GLYKE, 60mg b.i.d. oral taken for 3-6 months or
more. Before and after treatment, T4/T8 ratio and T4CC were determined.
PCR and p24 antigen tests were done also. FACScan and monoclonal
antibody reagent were used. RESULTS: 3 pta marked effective, 10
effective, 39 partial effective, total effective rate 46.43%. 33 pts
with T4/T8 ratio and T4CC improvement were observed. Fatigue, anorexia,
wasting ameliorated. 3 pts showed seronegative conversion. PCR was done
in 1 pt, it revealed positive. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: GLYKE is
effective in treating HIV/AIDS (62.4% were AIDS). 30% of them improved
immunologically, symptoms ameliorated accordingly. 3 pts showed
seronegative conversion after GLYKE therapy, but PCR still showed (+).
