 AB    OBJECTIVE: To clarify the physical, psychological, and social problems
       among the HIV/AIDS patients in Japan. METHODS: 1. Making the classified
       question papers based on the nursing diagnosis of the North American
       Nursing Diagnosis Association. 2. Carrying out the questionnaires
       intended for the 160 inpatients and outpatients of the HIV/AIDS at our
       hospital. 3. Statistical analysis of the answers. RESULTS: *Physical
       problems: Problems and self-care actions vary by the influence of the
       opportunistic diseases. *Psychological problems: The great shook to
       realize one's HIV infection, and long process of mental recovery to
       reschedule one's life plan. *Social problems: Heavy burdens like the
       cost of medical treatments *Overall tendency: Continued efforts not to
       change one's lifestyles because of the HIV infection. DISCUSSION AND
       CONCLUSIONS: Concrete problems of the HIV/AIDS patients in Japan were
       identified through the research. Future task is to use the data to
       provide better nursing care with its focus on the comfortable life of
       the HIV/AIDS patients.
