AB Home Care is an assistance alternative where hospital services shared
patients attention. This Home Care Program is currently implemented in
the province of Valencia in the framework of the Department of
Activities and Services of the Red Cross of Spain. It is entirely
finnanced by the Local Government (Conselleria de Salut-Valencia).
During the last year 98 patients have entered the program, who generated
145 admittances. 84.6% are males and 15.13% are females. Parenteral drug
abusers is the most frequent risk practice (63%), followed by
homosexuals (16%). Most frequent diagnosis at admittance is PCP (22%),
cerebral Toxoplasmosis and extralung tuberculosis. Total stays were
6290. Members of the team performed 4373 visits number to patients homes
of which 56.2% were nurses visits. We are saving days of hospital stay
and hospital costs. We rationalized use of hospital and humanized health
assistance of AIDS patients. The high degree of aceptance and the
positive opinion from users support the service go on.
