AB In regards to AIDS care, the global inequity shows its dramatic effects
on the lack of hospice care facilities for terminally ill AIDS patients
in developing countries. OBJECTIVES: 1) To develop a facility which
provides compassionate care for the terminally ill AIDS patients; 2) To
serve as hospice care facility model for developing countries; and 3) To
teach the fundamentals of nursing, safety and comfort to those related
with the patient. METHODS: The project development began with: 1) A
needs assessment development in Mexico City; 2) Origin of the Tina's
House Foundation; 3) Negotiations with in-site AIDS organizations and to
assure their involvement; 4) Fund raising development for spreading the
burden of cost in the fashion of community-wide response. RESULTS:
$30,000 US DLS has been raised for the development and construction of a
28 bed hospice care facility. The licensure requirements have been
accomplished in Mexico and U.S.A. The Mexican government has donated 2
an half acres of land in order to build the hospice. The Board of
Directors of Tina's House Foundation have developed some fund raising
activities in Mexico and U.S.A. The project has been licensed and the
fund raising to cover construction cost is underway. CONCLUSION: This
Hospice Care Model project can meet the needs of at least 50 persons
with AIDS per year in the residential care facility. Documentation of
the project development will help assure that the project can be
       replicated.
