 AB    OBJECTIVES: Stablish the number of new existent cases of HIV in the
       rural area and analyze the cause for wich the number of sick and
       infected countrypeople has grown considerably. METHODS: A descriptive
       study, with sources of direct information, was carried out. Contact was
       done with people who live in the rural area. Also, a source of indirect
       information was used, that is data obtained from health programs of
       Colombian Departments. RESULTS: It was determined that HIV cases in the
       rural area grown considerably in the last year, That is a 35% of new
       cases have appeared. Cultural factor of this population was one of the
       most important causes for the growing of infection in adition to the
       lack of information and programs in order to prevent infection.
       DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: 1. Interaction between cultural factors and
       abscense of prevention programs in these areas are fundamental cause of
       nowadays situation. 2. Proliferation of HIV/SIDA programs in the urban
       areas has contributed to people from rural zones do not have a proper
       help. 3. Implementation of educational programs in these areas, directed
       fundamentally to prevention, could be a way to improve the populations
       standard of living and prevent the growing of the number of infected
       people.
