AB OBJECTIVES: To document changes in clinical presentation and
demographics in HIV positive patients from a rural and small urban area
of central Georgia in the southeastern USA. METHODS: A retrospective
abstraction of patients records presenting over a 3-year period was
performed. Demographics, clinical diagnosis, immunologic status and
laboratory in presentation were reviewed. Trends were analyzed by ANOVA.
RESULTS: 75 patients were enrolled. The following annual trends were
documented: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. DISCUSSION: An increasing
percentage of our HIV infected patients are of African American descent.
Though the mean age at presentation has declined, patients are
presenting earlier both clinically and immunologically. This may be
evidence of an increased awareness of HIV in this population.
