 AB    From 1980-85 approximately 240 people with coagulation disorders were
       infected with HIV through treatment with blood products. This paper
       outlines the progression and psychosocial impact on the 60 patients
       currently treated at the Alfred Hospital for medically acquired HIV.
       There are particular psychosocial issues related to the genetic nature
       of the coagulation disorders and the treatment arrangements. Together
       these factors mean that the impact of multiple loss on a small,
       vulnerable community has been devastating. Patients were infected whilst
       being treated from trusted centres for an incurable, life threatening
       disorder. Many focused their anger on litigation action. Other
       particular losses spring from the relatively younger age at infection.
       Co-infection issues impact on treatments used.
