AB STUDY OBJECTIVES: We chose to assess the prevalence and impact of MAC on
patients with AIDS attending the hospital. METHODS: Retrospectively we
identified 62 HIV patients with positive MAC cultures and reviewed their
hospital files. Our analysis included whether MAC was the AIDS defining
illness, the CD4 count, alkaline phosphatase and C-reactive protein
level at MAC diagnosis. We assessed the outcomes with no treatment and
with regimens with and without clarithromycin. Our results and
       conclusions will be discussed.
