Sportster Fax Setup

In researching the Windows Communications Driver problem we've found the
following:

Use the WFXCOMM.DRV driver in Windows to fix a bug in the default Windows driver
(COMM.DRV) and to take advantage of the 16550 UART FIFO chip. You can pick up
this driver from our BBS at (708) 982-5092, filename "WFXCOM.ZIP" or
"WFXCOM.EXE".

This is done by changing the line "COMM.DRV=COMM.DRV" in the SYSTEM.INI file to
"COMM.DRV=WFXCOMM.DRV". This setting is found under the [boot] section in this
file.

In the SYSTEM.INI file, under the section [386Enh] the following lines need to
be added or edited: (Replace the 'x' with your communications port number. For
example, if you are on COM2, then you would replace the lines below with
COM2FIFO=2, etc.)

COMxFIFO=2
COMxBUFFER=256
COMxAUTOASSIGN=1
COMxTXSIZE=14
COMxRXSIZE=8
COMBOOSTTIME=30   {NOTE:  This line does NOT have the COM port number!}

You also need to ensure that Windows is starting in 386 Enhanced mode.

* You can check the current mode by going to the HELP menu in the Windows
Program Manager and selecting "About Program Manager...".

Options are "Standard" or "386 Enhanced".

* You can force 386 Enhanced by using the following command line when starting
Windows:

WIN /3

In addition, we recommend making the initialization string for most faxing
programs as follows:

AT&F&H3&R2&I2S7=90

If you have a Sportster 9600 or a 14.4, and your serial number has '01', '02' or
'03' in the 7th position, then you can add S36=0 into the initalization string.
For example, if your serial number begins with 00027601, 00027602 or 00027603,
then make your initialization string ( the sporter 28.8 has the S36 register.)

AT&F&H3&R2&I2S7=90S36=0

If it does not have an '01', '02' or '03' in those positions in your serial
number, please send us your serial number, address, and a request for a
supervisor ROM update. If you have any additional questions or problems, please
feel free to contact us at the numbers listed on the cover page or the numbers
listed below.  Thank You.
