Description file for the ThrustMaster Mark II WCS Advanced Feature Chip
Upgrade. This is a package containing a new chip, a new manual, and a
complete ThrustMaster Mark II WCS and FCS(PFCS) software menu shell with
built-in file editor as well as other features. Released in January, 1994.
Available to all current ThrustMaster Mark II WCS owners at ThrustMaster's
cost of development of this vastly expanded features package.

I will try to answer all the inquiries I have recieved regarding the new
chip, microcode, software, patches, cost, etc.

1. Do I have to send my Mark II in for the upgrade?
No, you get a new chip that plugs into a socket on the circuit board
inside the Mark II WCS - all you need is a small common screwdriver
and a small (No. 1) Philips screwdriver and about 10 minutes to pull
the old chip and install the new one.

2. Will it work with my AMI keyboard controller vs 8, 9, 0, B, D, or ACER
keyboard BIOS, or with OS/2. Yes, so far, the new upgrade has worked
with all keyboard controllers that are not quite 100 % IBM compatible
that we have tried it with so far. This includes all BIOS' that we
found incompatibilities with in the old chip and microcode in the
original Mark II WCS. It works with OS/2 as well.

New features included with the advanced feature chip upgrade:

A complete menu shell interface - called the ThrustMaster Mark II WCS
Command and Control Center (C&CC). The C&CC consists of a menu shell
that is specifically tailored to allow you the easiest use of all your
ThrustMaster products. The menu is layed out in a logical format and

V. FUNCTION KEY SECTION

Located at the bottom of the Main Menu Screen are the function keys
F1 thru F7, they perform the following functions:

F1 - Hlp - Brings up a help file that includes most of the information
you need to operate the C&CC (by Tom Basham).

F2 - TMSA - Runs the ThrustMaster Stick Adjustment program to allow you
to diagnose potential problems and acheive specific control
settings with your ThrustMaster controls. (TMSA is included).

F3 - Keytest - Allows you to view all keypresses you have programmed on
your Mark I and Mark II WCS and FCS(PFCS) (by Craig Allen).

F4 - Files - Pulls up a listing of all directories and files on your
hard disk that allows you to choose and view them.

F5 - User Program 1 - Runs any program you specify in the C&CC
Configuration file along with prompting you for an
ADV file you specified to download, if any.

F6 - User Program 2 - Same as User Program 1, except for a second program.

   F7 - About - The C&CC screen credits.

   Esc - Exit - Quit the C&CC.

All of the above are available using the mouse or the keyboard.

What new features are included?

1. The ability to program repeating keys when any button on either the
Mark II WCS or the FCS(PFCS) are held down.

i.e. The line BTN 1 x - will generate a repeating x key as long as
   you hold BTN 1 pressed.

2. The ability to program a separate function on a press and release of
   a key.

   i.e. The line BTN 1 /P x /R y - will generate a repeating x if you hold
BTN 1 pressed and a single y when you release it.

3. The ability to force the keys to NOT repeat if you wish.

i.e. The line BTN 1 /P /N x will generate only ONE x when you press it -
   it will not repeat.

4. The ability to program macros onto a single button press or release.

   i.e. The line BTN 1 /P SHF CTL ALT x /R SHF CTL ALT y - generates a key
that looks to the program like you are holding down the shift bar, the
control key, the alternate key, and the x key when you press it, and the
shift bar, the control key, the alternate key and the y key when you
release it. It will repeat as long as you hold it unless you instruct
it not to. This is great for programs that require keyboard aerobics
   to operate many functions.

5. The ability to program different sets of toggles on each button based on
the position of the rocker switch on the WCS II handle.

   i.e. The line BTN 1 /U /T /P /N w /R x /T /P y y y /R z z
                        /M /T /P a a a /R b b b b /T /P c /R shf ctl alt d
                        /D /T /P e f g /R h i j /T /P k /R L

When the rocker switch is up will generate a non-repeating w when you
press BTN 1 the first time, a non-repeating x when you release it the
first time, a yyy when you press it the second time, and a zz when you
release it the second time. It will return to the non-repeating w the
third time you press it and so forth.

When the rocker switch is down will generate an aaa when BTN 1 is pressed
the first time, bbbb when released the first time, a repeating c when
pressed the second time, and shf-ctl-alt-d when released the second time,
   and so on.

When the rocker switch is down will generate an efg when BTN 1 is pressed
the first time, an hij when released the first time a repeating k when
pressed the second time and a non-repeating L when released the second
   time, and so on.

6. The ability to specify the rate at which your keypresses will generate
so you can tailor your ADV files to match balky keyboard handlers in some
simulators. You can set the key generation delay at any number between
20 and 200 milliseconds (roughly milliseconds).

i.e. The line GAME 1 50 would set a DIGITAL Type 1 throttle and a key
generation rate delay between keystrokes of 50 ms. The rate affects both
throttle AND regular button presses and releases.

The line GAME 2 90 would set a DIGITAL Type 2 throttle with a key rate
delay of 90 ms (slower generation than GAME 1 50).

The line GAME 0 150 would set an ANALOG throttle type with a key rate
delay of 150 ms (slower than GAME 2 90).

7. The ability to specifically control the throttle area between OFF and the
Idle detent with DIGITAL Tpe 1 or Type 2 throttles.

   i.e. BTN MT /P /N - - - - - - - - - - /R = would generate 10 "-" keys
from IDLE detent to OFF and 1 "=" key from OFF to IDLE detent.

BTN MT /P /N p /R p would pause any game that uses the "p" key when the
throttle handle is pulled back from IDLE to off and restart it when the
handle is pushed forward from OFF to IDLE if the p were also used as a
   pause/unpause toggle.

8. An included "Planner.adv" file that you can load into the C&CC's internal
file editor or your favorite ASCII text editor to help plan the layout of
   you ADV files.

9. The ability to enter as many REM commands as you like with no impact on
the amount of memory used. You may enter them at the beginning of any
line or at any point in a line and all characters from the REM statement
beginning to the end of the line will be ignored as comments when you
   download the file.

10. The ability to "stack" each command on every BTN line so that they are
both easier to read and to allow you to REM each keypress.

    i.e. The line BTN 1 /U /T /P t REM Comments.......
                              /R SHF F5 REM Comments.......
                           /T /P t REM Comments.......
                              /R SHF F6 REM Comments.......
                        /M /T /P t REM Comments.......
                              /R SHF F7 REM Comments.......
                           /T /P t REM Comments.......
                              /R SHF F8 REM Comments.......
                        /D SHF g REM Comments.......
is both possible and easier to read and will download properly with all
commands attached to BTN 1 only.

11. Internal editor contains a rule screen that pops up when you choose a
BTN line and will show you what programming is valid and remind you of
various cautionary statments. You can "hide" the screen so it allows a
full view of the ADV file to make programming them easier and call it
    up if you wish.

i.e. If you are programming BTN UB, the rules screen will come up showing
the programming rules for BTN UB, if you are programming RKR UP, the
screen will show the rules that apply to RKR UP, etc.

12. On the bottom of the internal editor screen are reproduced all the
hard-to-remember keypress commands (i.e. SCRLCK, LAROW, etc). You may
click with your mouse cursor over any of those commands and they will
be entered in the editor line where your editor cursor is.

13. More positions available on the "hat" switch. You can now program a
function on the hat for each positions press and release. Instead of
five different functions on the hat - you can now get up to eight, or
    you can simply use five.

    i.e. The lines BTN HU /P a /R b
                   BTN HR /P c /R d
                   BTN HD /P e f g /R h i
                   BTN HL /P j k /R l m n o p
is valid and will generate eight different positions that perform eight
different keypresses or groups of keypresses and releases.

alternatively, The lines BTN HU x
                             BTN HR y y
                             BTN HD F10 F9 F8
                             BTN HL F2 x g q
                             BTN HM F1 x t n
is valid and will generate five different positions that perform five
different keypresses or groups of kepresses with BTN HM controlling the
release of the "hat" to the center position from any of the other four
    positions.

14. More positions on the RKR UP and RKR DN lines. RKR MD has been
eliminated. Now you can program FOUR different positions on the RKR
    position lines.

    i.e. the Lines RKR UP /P x y z
                          /R a b
                   RKR DN /P c d e
                          /R f g h i j
will generate two different functions when moving the rocker from up to
middle and from down to middle as well as well as two different functions
when moving the rocker from middle to up and middle to down.

Any of the above may be left out if you don't want to program one of
    them.

i.e. the Line RKR UP x - is valid and will generate a single x when the
rocker is pressed into the up position from the middle position and
nothing when pressed from the up to middle, middle to down, or down to
    middle positions.

15. Includes several patch programs to correct or enhance joystick routines
in some of the more popular flight simulations including:
AOTP, AOE, Red Baron, by Bob "Bit Twiddler" Church a FSFORUM member.

16. Includes all of Ken "Stinger" Richardson's TSR programs so you don't
need to download them from the FSFORUM.

17. Includes Brian "ID" Sanders' ACEROL.ZIP file to modify the flight models
    in AOTP of all aircraft.

18. Includes TM-STICK.COM. A TSR that allows you to select the null zone
on each joystick axis independent of one another in Falcon/MiG/Hornet and
allows you to adjust the analog throttle % that is acheived when you
move the Mark II WCS throttle handle into the AB detent so that it will
produce whatever throttle rpm you wish at that detent. It also removes
the program's joystick routines and substitutes and enhanced joystick
routine to make the Falcon/MiG/Hornet aircraft easier to fly and control.
It also eliminates the ILS HUD view shift so you don't need to turn it
    on or off.

19. Includes 56 already prepared ADV files for all the more popular flight
simulators and some arcade-type games (DOOM and Seal Team).

How much is it? In the U.S. - $10 INCLUDING shipping and handling. Overseas
slightly more based on the shipping cost to that destination.
