          POST DISASTER INSTRUCTIONS FOR CITIZENS

Remain at the shelter until you are informed that you may leave.
People will not be allowed back into an evacuated area until
Public Health and Building Officials have completed their
inspections and have given their approval.

          1. Do not become apathetic! Remain alert and aware of downed
power lines and other potential hazards.
          2. Listen for advisories on the radio or TV concerning the use of
water from the tap. A very severe storm could cause damage to
underground pipes and water mains. If you have been notified
that the water is safe to drink in your area allow the water to
run from the tap for at least one minute before use. If you
lost water service check with your water utility before
using it again. If you suspect the water may be contaminated boil it at high temperature for 15 minutes before using it.
          3. If your home has flooded have an electrician check your
electrical system before turning the power back on. Do not
plug your appliances back in until the power is safely
             restored.
          4. If you seem to have power in only part of your home check your
main disconnect panel for blown fuses or tripped circuit
breakers. NEVER TOUCH THE PANEL WHILE STANDING ON A WET
             SURFACE.
          5. Beware of snakes, insects or other animals which may have been
driven to higher ground due to flood water.
          6. Enter your home with caution. Open windows and doors to
             ventilate and dry your home.
          7. Be cautious with fire. Do not strike a match until you are
certain there are no breaks in the gas lines.
          8. Report broken water, sewer and gas lines to the proper
utilities. Please do NOT call 911 to report an outage. Use
             the business phone number.
          9. Stay tuned to the radio for disaster assistance information.
In Central Florida WDBO 580 AM will carry advice and
             instructions from local government officials.
10.Photograph damages to your home. Make emergency repairs.
11.Be suspicious of refrigerated food. Check it carefully before
             using it.
          12.Try to be patient.
