California Research and Education Network (CalREN): Briefing Package No. 4 November 1, 1993 Richard A. Hronicek Program Director, CalREN Pacific Bell 2600 Camino Ramon, Rm. 3S306 San Ramon, CA 94583 To CalREN Distribution List: CalREN, the California Research and Education Network, is Pacific Bell's program to stimulate the development and dissemination of high-speed data communication applications. CalREN's goal is promote the development of applications that: * Improve education and health care delivery * Improve business and governmental process * Facilitate new business development and job creation * Improve the economic competitiveness of California Through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process, CalREN will provide free Pacific Bell data communication services for a period of time to selected application demonstration projects. This may be the first CalREN mailing you have received. In an attempt to reach the broadest possible audience, CalREN has supplemented its existing mailing list with community-of-interest based lists obtained through established public channels. In most cases we do not know precisely what job title to address this to within your organization. We need your assistance in promptly directing this package to the person or group that has the technical expertise to evaluate the applicability of this opportunity. In most organizations this would be a telecommunications manager or information systems manager. This package includes three community-of-interest based RFPs as follows: * Education * Health Care * Community, Government & Commercial Services Although every effort has been made to adequately define the sectors that each of the attached RFPs is intended to encompass, we do expect that in some circumstances there could still be confusion regarding which RFP to respond to. If there is any uncertainty, please contact the CalREN staff for clarification. The CalREN staff can be reached on 1-800-CalREN7. Please contact us if we can be of assistance to you. Richard A.
