    PACKAGE CONTENTS LIST
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Wherever you have obtained this software from, you should have the
following files with your program. You may have extra files, too, but
these are nothing to do with me or this program.

GUITAR .EXE - This is the essential program. You can run and use
this without any of the *.TXT files, although the
                    other *.DAT files are essential.

MANUAL .TXT - This is the full manual for the program. Everything I
know about the program is documented here, hopefully
in an easy-to-read, informative format. As always,
tell me if there is something you don't agree with by
writing to the address on the order form.

REGISTER.TXT - This file contains information about registering and
using the program. It also contains an order form
that you can print out and send to me.

    README .TXT - This file!

NOTE .TXT - An information file used by DISPNOTE.BAT. To view this
                    file, run DISPNOTE.

VENDOR .TXT - A text file for use by Shareware libraries to advertise
this program in their catalogues or on their bulletin
                    boards.

INSTRUCT.DAT - A special file that is readable only by the program
                    itself contaning on-line help.

CRDSHAPE.DAT - Another file readable only by this program that contains
all the chord shapes in the chord library.

SCALES .DAT - This file is also only readable by the program and
                    contains all the available scales.

DISPNOTE.BAT - A program to show some brief notes and then this file. To
                    run it, just type DISPNOTE.

INSTALL .BAT - A simple installation routine. Run DISPNOTE for more
                    details.

                         OTHER ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

    Hardware
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

As far as I know, all the current hardware requirements for
GUITARIST'S TOOLBOX are listed below. If you have all the items below
and still can't get the program to work, write to the address on the
    order form.

You will need the following minimum hardware...

        * A fully IBM compatible PC including a 3.5" or 5.25" disk drive,
          a monitor, and a keyboard.

        * An EGA or higher graphics card and compatible monitor.

        * A copy of the MS-DOS operating system, version 3.x or any higher
version. I cannot think of any special DOS settings that are
        required to run this software.

    Execution
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Start your computer with MS-DOS and change to the GUITARIST'S
TOOLBOX directory using the CD command, eg. CD C:\GUITAR or whatever,
and then type GUITAR and press <ENTER>. The program should run and
display the main menu. You can select any option on any menu by
pressing the appropriate number key and then <ENTER>. The program is
fairly intuitive but full instructions can be found in the file
MANUAL.TXT in addition to the basic help which can be found on one of
the menus directly from the program.

    Trouble Shooting
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, read all the instructions, including this file, carrying
out everything suggested and making sure you have all the hardware and
software needed for the program to work. If you have got this far
unsuccessfully, then try the following in addition:

        * Check all the connections on your computer, check that it is
plugged in to a live socket - all the obvious things, really.

        * Are you sure you have an EGA graphics card and monitor? VGA,
SVGA etc. are all perfectly okay, too. I have a 1Mb Paradise
          SVGA card that works fine.

        * Make sure that the four files GUITAR.EXE, INSTRUCT.DAT,
CRDSHAPE.DAT and SCALES.DAT are all on the same disk and in the
same directory. Also make sure that you ran Toolbox from this
directory. Specifically, make sure the Toolbox directory does not
feature in the PATH command in your autoexec.bat file.

        * Make sure that ANSI.SYS is loaded. You may need to modify your
CONFIG.SYS file to make sure DOS loads the ANSI driver at boot-up.
The line you will need to add will look something like...

          DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS

See your DOS manual for more details.

        * It is possible that some of the files on your distribution disk
that you received from the Shareware Library (or wherever) were
damaged or contained damaged files. If you send this to me with
a Cheque for 2.50 drawn on a UK bank, then I will test the
program and see if it really is the disk or the files. If it is
the files, then I will replace all the files for you. If the disk
is damaged, then I will also send you a different disk. You should
take this up with the shareware library first. They will normally
be happy to exchange damaged or incomplete disks without any extra
charge. However, this service is available as a last resort. Note:
If you do not live inside the UK then I will make a charge of 3.50
for the above service to allow for the extra postage rates. This
cheque must be in pounds sterling and drawn on a UK bank.

    End Bit
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

You have now reached the end of this readme file. I now reccommend
that you install and use GUITARIST'S TOOLBOX. Refer to the file
MANUAL.TXT whenever you come up against a problem. Don't forget to
register this software after 30 days if you decide to continue using it.
Full registration details can be found in the file REGISTER.TXT.

Lastly, the Shareware principle was designed for YOU, the user. If
there is any aspect of GUITARIST'S TOOLBOX that you do not like or would
like to see improved, or if there is a particular feature you would like
added in a future version, don't forget to TELL ME. I will accept any
criticism or suggestion, even if you are not a registered user. Send all
comments to the address on the order form.
