WebSurf commands
Menu commands
Look at the menu by pressing Menu. You can see that a lot of commands are
available in the File, Loading,
Document and Special menus.
We are going to explain them.
The File menu
- Open: As for other applications, you can use it to open another file;
- Reload: Close the file and load it again;
- Edit: Launch the text editor to edit the file, and when you close the text editor, starts re-processing the file.
The Loading menu
- Stop: By selecting this option, you temporarily stop the program from reading the file. You
can, however, still see the part that has already been loaded;
- Resume: This makes the program read the end of the file, when it has been stopped with
the previous option, or when a memory error has occured, and you selected "Stop";
- Forget all and continue: Whether the program is still reading the file or not,
this makes it discard most of the top of the file and continue the download.
- Empty cache: Deletes all files in the m:\www\cache\ directory.
Use this to recover memory when you saw lots of GIF pictures on a page.
The Document menu
- URL: Shows the URL (Uniform Ressource
Location) of the current document. This should always be
something like file:... unless you're viewing a real-time
Web document (if this happens, call me! ;-) ;
- Title: This option will show you the title of the document you're currently viewing;
- Links: Brings a dialog box allowing you to see all
the links which are on the current page, and where they lead;
- History: Shows you the last 7 pages visited;
- Back: Brings you to the previous page.
The Special menu
- Preferences: This will show you the preferences dialog. With it, you can choose the
font used to display the page (Swiss or Roman), whether it is always non-proportional, or
set according to the HTML tags, the language (French, English, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, German, Irish, Dutch or Welsch),
in case you don't like the one that has automatically been selected, and the thickness of
the loading indicator, together with the percentage of memory that should be deleted when
you run out of memory and decide to continue, and the way WebSurf displays alternate
text for images;
- About: Gives the version number;
- Register: Choose this to register when you have the registration code ;
- Zoom in: you know it;
- Zoom out: you know it;
- Exit.
Keyboard commands
In addition to the previous commands, you can use the following ones:
- TAB: follows a link (links are shown as inverted text). When there are
more than one link on the screen, you are asked which one you
want to follow, otherwise you are automatically brought to the
only existing one. There can be an unlimited number of links in a
document. This is the most important command of WebSurf;
- Arrow keys: use up and down keys to move across the page;
- Psion-Arrow keys: use this to move a screen at a time (press Ctrl to move to the top/bottom of the page);
- SPACE: use this to move one screen downwards (just as Psion-Down would
do).
