If you are running an unregistered version, it will then display a warning message indicating that certain functions are disabled. If this appears, press Esc to start the program. Setting up courses ------------------ On the Course Details menu, select new course. Course details are entered into a series of dialog boxes, the first of which contains the basic course details: Name, address, phone number, professional and comments. Fill in the details, then press Enter to move onto the next dialog. The second dialog defines the colours used for up to three tee-markers, and the distance units for the course (yards or metres.) After completing the first two dialogs, the program will display the 'Skip to' dialog. If you are creating a new course, you will simply press Enter to start entering the details of hole 1. If you are editing a partly entered course, you can press Tab to produce a dialog allowing you to skip to a specified hole (type the hole number, and press Enter), abandon the editing operation (press 'Y') or return to the basic course information (press Space.) All subsequent dialogs include the same three buttons: Enter to accept and move to the next dialog. Tab to skip to another hole, or abandon editing. (see above.) @ to save the course as is, and exit. In addition, pressing Esc will back up one dialog at a time, until you reach the start dialog. At this point, pressing Esc will abandon editing. After the first two dialogs, the program will alternate between two dialogs to define the parameters for each hole. The first contains the measured lengths from each of the tees. The second contains the men's and women's par and stroke index for the hole. When all course details have been entered, press '@' to save the course. Note that you can save a partly entered course and return to it later. To go back and edit a course, choose 'Edit course' from the Course Details menu. A selection dialog will allow you to choose the course to edit. To delete an unwanted course, use the 'Delete course' option. You will have to confirm before it is deleted. Setting up players ------------------ To set up players, use the Player details menu. This works in the same way as the courses menu. The player details are contained in one dialog. As with courses, there are options to add, update and delete players. Player details consist of name, handicap and sex. Playing a round --------------- To start a new round, choose 'Select course' from the Round menu. Choose the required course from the selection dialog. The scorecard grid will then appear. Over this, a dialog appears allowing you to choose the number of players and scoring method you wish to use. Some scoring methods are only available with certain numbers of players (for example, fourball requires four players.) A message will indicate this, if necessary. Next, select the player details. The dialog includes name, handicap, sex and tees the player is playing from. Press Tab to look up a predefined player, or enter the details directly. Repeat this process for all players. As with the course set-up, you can press Esc to back up to a previous dialog. Once all players have been entered, the dialogs disappear, and the cursor moves into the scorecard. You can now move freely around the scorecard and enter scores. The top of the scorecard shows the course being played, and the current date. The bottom shows the details of the player and hole the cursor is currently on, and the scoring method currently being displayed. The central section shows details of 9 holes, including hole numbers, distances, pars, stroke indexes. To the right are the players, and spaces to enter scores. Enter scores by moving the cursor to the appropriate cell, typing the score and pressing Enter. Adjacent to each score cell is a cell which displays the deviation from par for that hole. A par is shown as '+0', a birdie as '-1', a bogey as '+1' etc. On matchplay, bestball or fourball, a hole won is shown as '+1', a lost hole is '-1' and a shared hole is '«0'. Towards the bottom of the screen, totals for the nine holes showing, and the overall course are shown. Changing scoring method ----------------------- To change scoring method during a game, press Menu and select the required scoring method from the menu. Also, you can switch between net (which accounts for handicaps) and gross which doesn't. Finally, you can switch between the front and back nine (registered versions only.) You can also update player details during a game (for example, changing a handicap.) Use the Player details menu for this. You can also add a new player or remove an existing player. The scorecard will be redrawn to reflect the change, if necessary. It will automatically change the scoring method if the current method is no longer applicable (for example, if you remove a player from a Fourball game.) Completing the round -------------------- To complete a round, select 'Exit and Save' from the Course/round details menu. After confirmation, a dialog will appear for each player to record general comments about the round (such as weather conditions, opinions about performance etc.) These details will be stored with the scorecard. To abandon a round, select 'Abandon Game'. You can also clear the scorecard, and view the course details from this menu. Browsing historical scores -------------------------- From the main Player Analysis menu, choose 'Browse scores'. The first scorecard recorded will be displayed. Below this a dialog will appear, allowing you to browse through each stored scorecard. Either use the arrow keys to step through the scorecards one by one, or enter the number in the 'Entry' field and press Enter to jump straight to it. The screen shows how many scorecards are currently stored. When finished with the browse function, press Esc to return to the main menu. Score Analysis -------------- This function is only available to registered users. Further details are available via e-mail ant@rmmb.co.nz.
