Edward Keyes has been one of the bearers of the 3rd party software torch for the Pilot ever since it was released and now he has come up with one of the best innovations for the Pilot yet.

The Hackmaster extension system enables small "Hacks" to be written which bypass the OS of the Pilot to perform new functions within the actual interface of programs, without damaging the OS structure.

At the heart of the system is the Hackmaster application which manages all the installed "Hacks" on your Pilot in an excellent, graphical form. The "Hacks" themselves will not run as standalone applications and must be configured using Hackmaster.

An API is available for those who wish to write their own "Hacks" and Edward maintains a list on his web-page of all available.

At the moment his much loved program "Apphack" has been ported to the system and now allows 24 different programs to be accessed from the hardware buttons and another program called "Menuhack" has been released which adds the brilliant feature of accessing a programs menu by tapping its title bar.

The list of available "Hacks" is sure to increase and this concept looks like providing Pilot developers with a powerful set of tools for working write into the heart of the Pilot.
