This is a quick and dirty package prepared for USR Pilot users that want to export data from any of the HP series of palmtop computers (95LX, 100LX, and 200LX) to the Pilot. This package uses GDBIO (an HP Palmtop extraction program), and a set of AWK scripts to prepare the data for importing into the Pilot using the Pilot Desktop Import function. It's quick and dirty - this is not intended for anything other than one time use, and I could be treading on a few toes by making the AWK and GDBIO executables available in this package. However, I'm doing it on the understanding that you will delete all of the files in this package once you have successfully imported your data into your Pilot. If you want AWK and/or GDBIO, go get them from the appropriate FTP sites. (AWK can be gotten from ftp.fsf.org I believe, and GDBIO is a popular HPLX program available in full on ftp.eddie.edu in /pub/95lx somewhere or other). How this works: --------------- The first thing you need to do is get your phone.pdb file from your HP palmtop to your PC, or transfer this package to your HP for use over there. Once you have all of the files in this package and your phone.pdb file in the same directory, simply type: TOPILOT phone.pdb On the command line. This will create a file called TOPILOT.CSV, which you can then import into the Pilot Desktop and subsequently HotSync to your Pilot. (You'll have to play around with the Import function to get the fields that you want - note that the first record in TOPILOT.CSV is a special one that I inserted in there to make it simple to match up the fields). It's pretty simple - further instructions are included in the TOPILOT.BAT file, in case you're curious. Note that I do not support this package in any fashion, nor am I taking responsibility for any damages or problems that occur as a result of the use of this package. I'm simply making it available for one time use to the few Pilot users that have asked me how I did this in the comp.sys.palmtops newsgroup. It worked great for me - I have imported over 500 records with these scripts and they came out just fine on my Pilot. j. Jay Vaughan jay@delphinus.com Delphinus Technologies
